I know this is just another thread for camera questions, but I digress. The XH-A1 is a very nice camera for it's price, and at a first glance it was my #1 choice. But one day, while looking through a magazine HD Video PRO, i came across an ad for the JVC GY-HM100. It's 3lbs and shoots .MOV files (Final Cut Pro native) and, after looking through footage, it seems the quality somewhat beats Canon's model. I have done tons of research, but still cannot decide between the two (price is a factor). I need my fellow mogulers to help me decide which camera will most help me tell my story (while still shooting in 1080p & 24fps :D). Thoughts?

I would still go with the XH-A1. I've seen some clips, and to me the XH-A1 looks alot more natural. I have a feeling the GY-HM100 is too sharp and digital. If you get my point. Probably not.

Ya, the GY-HM100 seems a little more suited for videography. I'm really not completely sold on the XH-A1 though (mostly not recording .MOV files like the JVC)

What are you shooting that requires a camera like that? You have an HD camera with a 35mm adapter already. That quality would be hard to match (DOF-wise) with either of these cameras bare.

Well i better fix that. I was just about to get the adapter, and then i realized if i was gonna get a jib, stedicam, ect. I either shoot straight for prosumer, or stick with my lil' hf-100 (the size/weight differences). I know the quality is pretty evenly matched, but i'm getting into videography, so i want people to take me more seriously with a larger more professional looking camera (also the hf-100 sucks in low light, and shooting upside down w/ the adapter can be a hassle). And of course I want more control over the footage that comes out of my camera. I actually dropped by the B&H Store in NYC and I liked the XH-A1 a whole lot more then the JVC (the image had a more realistic feeling, and its one sexy camera). So i guess i'll stick with my gut on this one. (the Canon is a tad cheeper too)

the way to get people to take you more seriously is too produce quality videography footage. having a big flashy camera will only make people think you have a shitton of money. but if your footage looks good, it doesn't matter what you're using.

That's defiantly not the main reason i require it. It's just a ton of big factors (i mentioned a lot of them) that would separate me from kids with cameras. Shooting in low light sucks with the HF-100 (and most consumer camcorders), and it was night and a lil dark at the B&H Store, and the picture that came from those cameras were incredible.
