I have always been a tad shady on how to film a dialogue scene. I know the shots in my head, but i don't know how to approach it when shooting.
For Example.
DEAN
(calm then surprised) aAHHHH!...
WHY do you always do this? Jesus!
Christian
well hello Mr. Grumpy pants
DEAN
ughhhhh.... What are you doing?!
CHRISTIAN
Watching Disaster Movie. It really fits the title.
DEAN
Alright, whatever, just get out. I got to drop a deuce.
CHRISTIAN
No, find your own bathroom.
DEAN
This is my bathroom.
CHRISTIAN
ah. (Walks out of room with items and dean enters)
I didn't really put the description of the scene in (it is on the script). Anyway, do I film both actors saying there lines, and just cut it like i would in post? Thank you in advance.

My approach to it is do a whole bunch of takes, with a bunch of camera angles. Over the shoulder shots cutting back and forth is a pretty common way to do straight up dialogue, but mixing some other random shots in there as well too can make it seem more stylized. If you really have no idea what you want it to look like, do a rehearsal with just anybody you can get to stand in for the actors, and do several takes each time at a different camera angle. go over the footage later and maybe do a little rough cutting, and then make a storyboard once you figure out how you want it to look.

Get coverage! Coverage, coverage coverage!
You're going to want a master shot (a wide, which runs through the whole scene) and then closeups and medium shots. Over the shoulder shots are also used for traditional dialogue scenes.

Just remember not to cross the axis. When you have two people talking, imagine a line running between them. This is the axis. Keep the camera on one side of this imaginary axis. When edited, actor A will be on the left side of the screen; actor B, on the right.

Yep "crossing the line", there may be cases where you could justify doing it for a certain effect, but as a general rule it screams amateur.

It depends what kind of style you're going for. If it's not a very emotional scene closeups are most definitely not needed.

A gag exchange like that could be shot handheld with the camera dashing back-and-forth. I think lots of cutting and dirtyframes and facial closeups seems a little overdramatic for a poo joke.
Also, why does Dean want Christian to leave the room? Is the TV hooked up in the toilet? Is the a toilet in his bedroom? Will be so smelly it will embarass the pooer? Or so loud? I just don't know why you'd make someone leave a room so you could take a shit.

lol. I didnt put the scene description or the part where dean wakes up. I would put it on but I'm on my new computer and im a lazy person. But basically its just kind of random, Dean wakes up in the middle of the night to do the business, and christians just sitting there in a sleeping bag with a DVD player. Dean is obviously surprised because christian doesn't live there or was let in recently. so he is kinda pissed, but technically doesn't have a reason (except for the fact christian is somewhat annoying).
