Ok i am using sony vegas pro 9. And i have a slight problem, i have black bars on my captured video. Captured in pinnacle studio then editing in sony vegas.
I dont mind the black bars on the top and bottom of my clip. But when i want to mask or overlay a clip. The clip will overlay onto the bars and it looks very amatuerish.
Please help me.

What aspect ratio are you working from (what did you shoot the video in)? And what aspect ratio template are you using in vegas?

Well all i know that is i shoot in widescreen mode. So i changed the sony vegas to widescreen and it made the bars away. But will that affect anything?

I used to have the same problem. Here's what you do. Go to the video clip that has the black bars. Go to event pan crop either by clicking on the logo on the clip, or right clicking and going to the option. A new window will open. Look on the left, and look for "Maintain Aspect Ratio" Change it to the other setting (No I believe). If that option isn't available, its probably in one of the drop down menus. Mine was hidden at first, under Source if I remember correctly.
That should solve your problem! :)

Yeah but that only really works if you shot the video is 4:3. Otherwise it looks weird.

Check your properties, and make sure the size of the video is correct. I film in 16:9 and it looks fine.

No, it works for Widescreen as well. Besides, by clicking, "No," you can adjust the size any way you'd like to.

Yeah, that's what I was TRYING to say. When it comes to technical stuff, I'm not the best at explaining in words. I'd much rather you fly to Georgia and let me show you how to do it. :D
But yeah, change to no, and it should work fine. If it STILL doesn't, you could just go to the compositing mode on the video track, and adjust the video from there. Its more time consuming though.
