I'm not nearly slack jawed enough. People have actually told me Brad Pitt, which is flattering, but I hardly see it (we've both got skin!). Other people say Rob Sheridan, who I've got no problem being compared to either.

Wes- what's the effective range on a shotgun like that? I get the feeling video games have given shotguns terrible reputations in the distance department.

That is my 20 gauge pump. The barrel is about 24 inches, the final pattern and range though of course depends on the choke I put on it.

The effective range differs from shotgun to shotgun, that is a hunting and sporting shotgun, it's way too long to be effective in a tactical situation (which generally require sub-19 inch barrels.) so it's effective range and accuracy (since you get a tighter pattern) is going to be much longer and tighter than a combat shotgun.

It also depends heavily on the ammo. Buckshot (larger/fewer pellets in a shell) is more effective and has a tighter grouping, BUT i'd imagine would have a lower TOTAL range because the pellets are heavier and have greater fall off (because of increased weight of the individual pellet and increased wind resistance). Birdshot on the otherhand (smaller/more pellets) has a longer range BUT it spreads out more so it's less effective. So while birdshot I would imagine would definitely travel a little further unimpeded, the heavier shot will be more effective.

So effective range can differ based on your distance and your target. The longest effective range would be something like a 12-gauge flechette dart or sabot round, fired from a long barreled shotgun. I would reckon the effective range for something like that would be well pass 100-yards. (At the very least well within the range of 200 yards which is the area where the majority of modern engagements take place).

Although generally most hunting shotguns have "effective" ranges of between 40-85 yards (depending on shot load, barrel length, wind conditions, gauge, and how hot the powder is). Although really past 50-60 most pellet groupings get so wide and lose so much speed that they tend to not be able to cause significant damage to larger targets.

Yea definitely. I have fired a 20-gauge pump action gun with a 6 inch barrel (effectively a shotgun pistol), and it's got a tighter group than what I see in some games.

At 20-30 feet away it has about a 5 foot wide grouping. Which is insanely large, but i've seen about the same grouping from shotguns easily three times that length in some games.

Just for illustration here is the same model of 6 inch shotgun I fired from a distance of about 10-15 feet. Got 10-inch groups.

No doubt that the beard is a great thing, but I'll go out on a limb here and guess that the exaggerated fascination is partially due to the fact that an overwhelming majority of IndyMogulers are incapable of growing one. I sure can't, even if I didn't shave for several months.

I know I'm jealous. The best I can do is a dopey chinstrap, or if I I really let it go, a patchy, feeble excuse for a beard. I'll never join the ranks of Billy Mays and Wesley Scoggins.

Hoo boy I must be tired: my brain went straight to "beard", as in someone of the opposite sex who marries a homosexual to make them appear straight.

Had a girlfriend who was facinated by shaving and shaping my beard, the same way she would with a portion of her anatomy.... I guess because they spent so much time together...

Oh that's really cool! How did you do it, because it looks like your faces were made of like stone or something. Did you use a different technique than Indymogul's?

Pretty much the same. Used nose putty to make ridges around our eyes and glued it down. Then took latex and tissue to our faces, and then just make up. Pretty much the same. I think the color of the make-up helped too. Instead of just white, ya know? Thanks!

EDIT: Also instead of just using the tissue on some of our faces it was all over and we cut mouth holes.

everyone's 21st are always way better than mine.

I spent mine in an empty tex-mex resturaunt with my family,a TV playing a sad tribute to John Lennon, ( my b-day is the same day he was killed) and having to deal with a screaming brainfreeze from an overboozed margarita.

my "sweet 16" wasn't any better either. LOL.
Sounds more eventful than mine! It landed on a Tuesday this year so I had to work, and because I had tons of homework that night (and school finals are coming up soon) I couldn't celebrate as hard as I wanted to. But this Saturday? It's going down like a girl on prom night. ;)

Saturday, though, with SNOW in Louisiana!, I'll make the brewery tour, snarf some fresh beer and have fun all day long! Enjoy Saturday, Bea... but don't really drink too much. Sundays aren't all that fun when they're used to nurse a wicked hangover!
