I don't have a facebook, and don't plan on getting one in the foreseeable future, but seeing it kinda made my want meter for one kind of jumped a bit (probably because of the cute erik pic on there lol) but I resisted. am I so weird that I don't have one?

I don't have one either moistly because my mom has one. I stick to myspace. Too bad Indy Mogul doesn't use their myspace anymore.

I have a Facebook page, and it has been interesting - reconnected with a large number of folks I knew in high school almost 30 years ago. I can also keep in contact on a more casual basis with my sisters and cousins.

On the down side, I tend to limit my time there because a lot of people want to chat, and that's a huge time suck. I also hate all the "games" they devise that encourage people to use their friends as a resource - like a more benign version of a chain letter (we had a ban on chain letters when I worked at Tippett - with all the things that can go wrong during the day, the last thing anyone needs is a threat of bad luck. I break them deliberately because even if it's hokum, I wouldn't shuffle off my misfortune on people who like me enough to give me their email. What sort of friend would I be?)

It's a handy tool for keeping your not too immediate friends in-the-loop regarding your life, but should be avoided for more than that.

lol! you'd be surpirse how often I get that from people who are being 100% serious.
my parents have one and so does my sister, and my whole extended family, who all say " why don't you have a facebook?" and shun me from farmtown/facebook conversations, seriously.

Farmtown is case in point. And Mafia Wars, and all the rest of that crap.

That said, Facebook or something like it, will eventually be as ubiquitous as email. Your online "face" via which you do your online activities.

A decade ago you would have faced similar censure for lack of an email address. Yes it's hip and detatched to be a holdout - "everyone's doing it, so I won't!" but really it's just peevishness. People just want to be connected to you when, in this much more distributed world, you can't be "in" each others lives as much as you used to be. Dunno how connected you are to your family, but for me, when I moved to LA, I fell out of a fairly tight knit group - facebook allows me to at least tangentially be involved in their day to day lives.

My mum is addicted to that farmtown thing, she's on it every single day. I don't get it, but it keeps her happy, so whatever. As for facebook, it seems like a tool to get to know and keep in tough with people, and i can't stand most of the people i meet, so i think ill pass on facebook for now.

The fact that I'm still in close contact with my friends and family is one of the main reasons I have one. I've said to them a few times how I'd get one if I felt the need to have one, which would be if there where no other way to communicate with them. I've actually been planning to move to LA for a good long while. so when I finally do, that's when I'll get a facebook. lol!

I hate myspace. In general it's a Facebook for young, stupid people.

You can take the gal out of FarmTown, but you can't take Farmtown out of the gal.
Especially when they have FaceBook.
