So I'm two years into college and I finally decided on what I wanna do. I think its high time I packed my bags and found a good filim school. Well the bags are pretty well packed, but what film school should I go to? I'd like to go to one around Florida, if at all possible. If you guys have any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear from you.

You have a few options. There is, of course, FSU. Also you've got Full Sail (which i do NOT recommend), there are the Art Institutes of Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and Jacksonville. I think New York Film Academy has a program in Orlando. Miami International University has a film program, as does the University of Miami. I personally, being very poor, am starting the film program at Palm Beach Community College in January. If by some miracle i win the lottery or something, i will try to get into FSU, but im not holding my breath.

I've heard of full sail before, just wondering why you would recommend against it. And I love Jacksonville, so I'll have to check that one out for sure. Thank you for your input, I know its a strange question to ask on INDY mogul lol

I think I've read that Full Sail ranks in the same categorys as hair dressing schools. I've heard pretty bad things about it. I think they just give you equipment, and tell you to go make a movie. Without any real direction. At least that's pretty much what I've heard.

I'm at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. It's downright amazing. I just finished the first day of my first project. Shooting on 16mm using Arri cameras, but tech is just one thing. All the teachers here are professionals in what they teach. My production teacher is screening a film he directed this week. Anyway, if you've got any questions about SVA, send me a PM.

Last i checked, Full Sail was still not accredited, so any degree you get from there is completely useless, you can't do anything with it. Add that to a $40,000 tuition and you have yourself a recipe for disappointment. Also, and this is strictly opinion based, i have spoken with several people who went to the school and said that they weren't taught a single thing they couldn't have learned on their own from reading books and researching on the internet. That being said, a lot of industry professionals seem to regard full sail graduates as being more qualified than graduates from some lesser schools, and their are also graduates who say that the contacts alone they made at the school were well worth the tuition. So its really up to you. If it were my money, i'd want to at least get a real degree out of it.

This might be a stretch, just because of it's tuition, but have you considered New York University.

I am a student there majoring in film production. The program here is really great. You get a great foundation in filmmaking techniques and are exposed to many different styles.

Plus, you'd be in New York City. Great place to be for a filmmaker.

The only issue, it's very expensive. It's worth consideration.
