This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4pEKQ_zUBo) is the trailer for "Ninja Assassin", an upcoming matrix-esc film. Your thoughts/Predictions? Big Boom boom, or a smart yet entertaining movie? I personally think it will be somewhere in the gray area.

Yeah, I heard about this on some website but the trailer had been taken down.

Anywho, I'm just straight up excited for it, it just sounds cool. (I enjoy the bluntness of it, but only because the wachowskis did it).

When I first saw the poster for this movie I thought "what a retarded name for a game" then when I found out it was a movie I thought "wow that title is even worse for a movie". Based on the trailer it looks like standard uninspired wire-fu action crap. The only thing missing is some no name rapper in a supporting role.

Following this theme they could've called any action cop movie "Criminal Catcher" or "Justice Defender"

Check out a list of made-for-SciFi films - they did a LOT of films with naming templates like that. I thought they topped out with "Rock Monster" (had B52's running through my head).

On a totally different award of merit for them, they gave us "Mansquito"...which is hands down one of my favorite titles EVER (though to be fair, the original title was pure sci fi drudergy: Mosquito Man)

Well Ninja (or rather, Shinobi), means specifically to disappear or to with hold yourself. So it has more connotations with meaning "Invisible", or being unseen like a thief or spy.

So the title of the movie isn't, "Assassin Assassin", it'd actually be something like "Disappearing Assassin", as Shinobi weren't just Assassin's historically (even though that was a major role). It would be the same as giving something the title of "Spy Assassin", even though Spies have committed acts of Assassination before, that isn't their only thing.

Anyway, onto the movie. I think that I am approaching this from a different perspective, since I am a big fan of hyperviolent anime, and cheesy Kung-Fu movies. Going into this wanted to see a live-action anime, or a modern update of a Shaw Brother's Ninja movie, you'll most likely be happy.

It's not the best story, but as far as martial arts and ninjas movies are concerned, this is pretty good, and it's got tons of awesome Ninja action, even if it isn't an artistic triumph or anything.

As much as I like Shaw Bros., I think I'll skip this one. This whole 'style parody/tribute' fad sucks -- Tarantino seems to be the only one able to do anything more than tacking their most superficial characteristics onto a regular Hollywood film.

Also, there's very little more insufferable than that sort of play at irony. It feels like having a smug filmmaking sitting next to you and jabbing you in the ribs saying "geddit? geddit?"

Blood, Blood and More BLOOD!

Good movie. Although most people think ninjas used katana's i would of be more excited if they used a ninjato in the movie. The sword ninjas were more historically known to use.
