Okay, I'm going to be nice and run a zombie survival game for you guys!
How play by posting works - this is really easy. All you do is make a character in this thread. When I get enough characters, I will post the game thread, and you simply post what your character is doing. I'll post examples on how to do that after characters have been made.
How to make a character - there are lots of systems for RPGs, but I'm going to use a super simple one called PDQ - Prime Descriptive Qualities. It's so simple you don't even need to read a book for it!
How it works is you have character points that you spend on character traits - you can have any trait you can think up! This means your character is better at tasks using that trait. You can also gain more points by taking a negative character trait. For example, here are some traits for a nerdy sort of character.
[+6] Science! The nerd loves reading all about science, and applying his knowledge!
[-2] Weak The nerd was always picked last during PE, and is not very physical at all.
this would be a 4 point character who would be awesome at doing anything that involves science (building a robot, hacking a computer, whatever) and would be a bit bad at doing physical things (running, jumping, fist fighting)
The amount of points you spend on a trait has to be a multiple of 2.
I'll put character points at 6 - you can have 8 points worth of positive traits (with a maximum of 6 in any one trait) and must take one negative trait.
That's all there is to it!
After working out traits to your character, a backstory is always nice, just a few sentences fleshing out their personality and life story and such.
Anybody can make a character to play!
