A friend of mine is looking for a small personal use camera, and he's seriously looking at the FS200. I don't know a whole lot about this model, does it record in .MOD files, and if so, what is the best way to convert it without quality loss or audio sync issues?
Also, would Adobe Premier Elements be good for video editing, such as cut/splice, adding audio/music, ect?
The new media computer at my church has Premier Elements, and I don't know much about it, I just know that I have some access to a pretty high end computer without having to buy one myself LOL

For a small camcorder I would look at the Flip UltraHD. It may come off as a joke but it's cheaper, is smaller, has a bigger chip, shoots 720p, and it will have about the same amount of features as the FS200 and the built in mic will be just as bad as the FS200.
Also if he gets one I would have them watch this.

Yet it doesn't appear to have an external mic jack, where the FS200 does. (Something that he's ruled out other similar cameras for) I'm pretty sure he's wanting to stick to SD footage, plus, reading the specs, that thing is a battery HOG, that'd be a major downside for me. I'd much rather go with a regular style video camera(Honestly, the footage might be good, but if I was shooting someones wedding or something, and brought something like that in, people would kinda freak out alittle. Overall not a fan of the cell phone looking cameras) and one that comes with rechargeable batteries. :D
LOL, he probably wouldn't know where to begin to mod it, even WITH the video HAHA. And warranty issues would defiantly be a concern.(Also remember this would be more for a personal use, then for making movies with.;)

I have the FS200 it is GREAT i went to universual studio's the sound was just perfect with 41x zoom it's still posable to hold it still. This one is way better than a flip ultra.
I think micheale didn't had a FS200 or used a bad version it has way more options and also can record in great slowmotion. The zoom is perfect it can zoom too full 41x in 1,5 seconds and for the .MOD files just right mousbutton and change it to .mpg.

LOL, I ditto that! There is an HD version?
Umm, I dunno. Which ever is overall better for the money I guess. I just looked it up after hearing there is a HD version, and one review said that its just HR widescreen SD, not true "HD". I dunno about the widescreen bit, but I'm sure a high-res SD would be just fine.
So the name change thing will work fine for it? What are the chances of audio sync issues I've heard about in some previous threads with changes .MOD files?

The friend that has the FS100 knows nothing about cameras or computers, still he manages to a) shoot good(ish) video and b) send it to me via msn. So I think that it packs the video to mpeg automatically.

Interesting! From what I'm hearing, I'm defiantly going to tell him to go for it! Seems like a pretty good camera for his purpose, and he likes the picture quality he's seen on Vimeo. How its its low light handling? Like would it get ok video in a room with just windows during the day? How bout like at a theater(stage, not movie) how would it do with just stage lighting, from out in the audiance?

The friend tha has the FS100 is a DJ and most of the videos he's shot are during his gigs. They are never evenly light, but still it is watchable.

I cheked it out and it isn't really a HD version. It's same maker and same kind of thing but it's called HF200.
