i think it would be a good i dea if everyone were to write what software they use and what they like about it.

I use Adobe AE, simply because its the easiest and best for special effects and stuff. Sony Vegas is a combined After effects and editor, but its bad.

I use Ulead Videostudio 11 for editing. It's pretty simple to use, but overall all I'd say its crap and wouldn't advise others wasting money on it.
For visual effects I use Visionlab from fxhome. Simple to use with an intuitive interface (others may find this different). But due to its lack of motion tracking it means all your shots need to be locked off unless you want to spend a lot of time doing roto. I've used it to do some fairly complex compositing work and a lot of firearm effects.
After effects is a superior program, but only worth while if you intend using all the features especially with the difference in cost. If you are eligible for student discount then AE is going to be the better purchase and I’d advise going for it.

It's an NLE and they are completely different. And it's a pretty good editor.
You use Vegas for putting the video together, and After Effects for compositing.

i've been using effectslab pro and windows moviemaker. I don't only use movie maker because of its incapabilities but i also use gimp to make some effects. I use all of these in unison because i've got an extremely low budget.
i dont have $1000 for adobe after effects, so yea......
i'd recommend effectslab you may have to roto (ALOT) but its cheaper and you get much of the same effects
if your not a film student and are just doig youtube for fun i'd go with visionlabstudio or effectslab pro

I use final cut express and final cut pro. Both are great but express is way cheaper. And both are fairly simple to learn basic stuff but take practice to really take advantage of the whole software's capabilities.

Yea, you got me there but, the "effects" that i needed could be covered by making it in Sony Vegas.
