I'm starting a new movie called Pirates of Suburbia. It's going to be my take on the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Hopefully it will turn out to be hilarious.

I haven't filmed any of the movie yet, but I finished the teaser trailer yesterday. You can watch the trailer by clicking the link below.

Let me know what you think.

lol, that's great :D
The guy playing Jack Sparrow is fantastic (Captain, sorry)

One thing i would mention is the sound, it was a little tinny and echoey, are you using the cameras mike or an external shotgun mike?

Other than that, fantastic trailer, can't wait for the full movie :D

Thanks! I'm playing Jack in the video.

Yeah about the sound. My camera is cheap and doesn't have an external mic plug. Which sucks cause I have a mic but I can't use it. So I'm having to make due with the built in mic.

Pretty cool man, one thing you could try, is if you don't have a mic input, try buying a cheapy MP3 recorder, hook your mike to that and record sound through that, then sync. the sound later (Use a clapperboard or someone clapping in front of the camera to help) it's easier than you might think :D ....

Good luck with the project + Great idea to use google earth ;)

This really deserves to be on the first page a little longer...In my opinion anyway.

It was really funny, and you did a great job playing Jack. Can't wait to see the movie. Hopefully you can find a way to improve the audio a little.

Thanks! I'm probably gonna start filming here sometime in the next few weeks, since the weather is starting to get nice. It no longer gets into the 100 degree range!!! WOOT!!!
Sorry, I'm just really happy about that. Now I can go outside in costume and not sweat like crazy.

So we filmed a good portion of the movie yesterday. It'll still be a few more weekends before it's complete. However, it is coming along rather nicely. Here's a screen cap of something we filmed.

I really liked it! And since I didnt fast forward its very good. Looking forward to the sequel.

Acting is the only thing that really needs work.

Really funny but the actors (besides jack :)) could do with some acting classes...the fight scene was a bit slow and jumping off the roof looked really fake..but in the end it was really funny!

That went straight into my favorites. Friggin fantastic job!

Okay, now the only bad thing I have to say. I don't think the idea is original.

It looks like a cross between the recent short film "Pirates of the Great Salt Lake" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKiJ8PVGbT0

and the sketches of this guy http://www.youtube.com/user/Andiana

And also, there are a couple Pirates of Suburbia's in the related videos too. I know that your script and everything isn't copied or anything. I found yours to be really creative. But the whole "Suburban Pirates" thing has been going on for a while.

Still, that's the best Pirates parody I've ever seen. EVER!

The few problems I saw were...

-Sean's acting, lackluster. Maybe he could work on his acting a bit more...

-The fight scene, kinda short and the camera was shaky. I liked the fight scene, but it was too short for me. Maybe if you make it longer, and possibly a faster pace. Remember,
1 second of film time = 3 seconds of real time.
Also don't get me wrong, the camera shouldn't necessarily be still in a fight scene. But the camera work was so shaky that I couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on at some points.

-Roof jump, too fake. Possibly jump from a stool that's out of the frame.

Parts that I loved...

-The dog scene. That was funny!! I never really liked the "person-through-dog-door" scene, but something about it being Jack Sparrow made me giggle.

-Your acting as Jack Sparrow. Really good stuff!! Do you take acting classes or have you?

-The whole script / the jokes. I really enjoyed it!!

Overall : 9/10

Yeah that was one of the things I was worried about when I was writing the script. I went to a screening of Pirates of the Great Salt Lake. And I've seen Andiana's stuff too. I tried my hardest to make this thing it's own and not do anything that they've already done. Which is really hard. I'm also kinda mad that there are other videos that were already using the suburbia name, but I stuck with it cause I think that it's still a good title. Besides I've searched some of my other videos on youtube and many of them have similar or exactly the same names as other videos. I was surprised how many videos had the name The Faketrix.

The few problems I saw were...

I appreciate your post. I agree with all of your points.
This was Sean's first movie. His acting isn't oscar worthy. I'll have to work with him so that he'll give a better performance in part 2.

-The fight scene, kinda short and the camera was shaky. I liked the fight scene, but it was too short for me. Maybe if you make it longer, and possibly a faster pace. Remember,

There is still alot in the fight scene that I would like to have fixed. I want to apologize for the camera work during that scene. Usually I do the camera but this movie was a little different because I was in it. So for all the scenes I was in I had my sister operate the camera. Most of the time she was forced into doing it when she didn't want to cause no one else was around. I told her to try to get the shakey handheld battle look and I think she many have over done it quite a bit.

-Roof jump, too fake. Possibly jump from a stool that's out of the frame.

I would have liked to redo the roof jump but we were under time constraints. Apparently my friends have better things to do than make movies with me. What selfish jerks. (<--That was sarcasm.) But what you suggested would have looked much better.

-Your acting as Jack Sparrow. Really good stuff!! Do you take acting classes or have you?

Thank you for the kind words. As far as acting classes go, I took drama in 7th and 8th grade. That and I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean so many times that I can impersonate Jack Sparrow fairly easily.

I just finished the script for part 2. I normally don't post my scripts on the net. But I would like to get some input and creative criticism on it. So if you read it please leave a comment. I would appreciate it. Thanks.

One thing I didn't like that was all the jokes were from the Pirates movies themselves

The other is that everyone but Cappin' Jack Sparrow's acting wasn't that convincing

HOWEVER, this movie was brilliantly shot, I loved the whole "Uncle Phil throwing Jazz out of the house" shot, I don't know if you did that intentionally or not, but it was awesome.

Great work! At first I was worried, because I saw that the length of the movie was 10 minutes, but it flowed very nicely, and I actually watched it all the way through. The dog scene was fantastic and I loved how the key was revealed. Spectacular Jack Sparrow acting, maybe the others would have been more realistic if they didn't pale in comparison to your Jack. Looking forward to the next part!

Filming on part 2 is taking way longer than I first anticipated. Getting the cast and crew together all on the same day has prooved to be quite a challenge. But we've only got a few more scenes to shoot. I'm hoping to have part 2 out by the end of this month. So keep an eye open for that!

I just checked it out. That was great. You do an amazing Jack Sparrow. My only complain is I think your story could've been better. The whole annoying roommate thing is kind of over done. But other than that everything else was awesome.

yeah, i wanted to stop watching after about the 15th stolen Jack movie line, im sure you could have written many great lines yourself without directly pulling them from the films. But everything else was entertaining.

That was great though I agree with the others on your problems. Jack was awesome, the redhead was ok I guess, and gibson was just horrible (no offense, but you can't get better if you don't know that your bad). Fight was pretty good, could have had more realistic swords though. I'm sure there are other things I could comment on but I am also pretty sure that everyone else has covered them quite nicely. Good job overall from one who loves POTC.

That is one of the things I tried to improve upon in the script for Part 2. Pretty much all of Jack's lines are original in the next part. There are one or two that referance back to the movies but that's it.

From what I have filmed and edited so far, part 2 is looking much better than the first installment. But like I said earlier there are still a few major scenes we need to shoot.

Not bad. One thing that really bugged me though, was the continuity of the passenger's arm in the minivan. I guess because it was so close to the front, it really caught my eye.

I really enjoyed both of them. They were really funny and Jack Sparrow is fantastic! The one thing that bothers me a lot is the lack of acting skill Gibs has. Besides that, great work!

It seems like it's been forever, but I'm still working on part 3. Scheduling filming dates for part 3 has become really really difficult. I'm hoping to have the movie done by the end of November. But I'm not sure whether or not that'll happen.

If everything goes according to plan, Pirates of Suburbia 3 will be out in November 2008! So keep your eyes and ears open for that.

I just watched part 1 and 2 and they were awesome.

I like how the guy who lives his life like a pirate from the movies says "Man YOU watch to many movies". I just couldn't stop laughing.

Second when the Pet Shop Boys "Suburbia" came on in the car was awesome. I didn't expect that, but it fit so well.

Good job. I look forward to part 3.

Kohrsfilms
10-15-2008, 01:59 PM
No. My movie is for the most part a parody of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Like I said before eariler in this thread, I've been trying to distance myself from all the other "suburban pirate" movies like PotGSL. Cause I don't want to do anything that they've already done.

<edit>
Here's an update. Part 3 is still crawling along at sea turtle speed. We actually are getting scenes filmed it just takes forever to get it scheduled just right.

But in the mean time, I'm proud to announce that the first 2 installments of Pirates of Suburbia have been re-scored and now have an entirely original soundtrack!!!

Here are the links to the new re-scored versions.
