....I don't think they have enough people for that...Unless they did the cloning thing. Now that would be sweet.

actually i'd like to see an episode on how to get that 300 look, the super contrasty sepia sorta thing.

Well if you wanna do the slow motion effect you have to shoot at 60P or higher and the best way to slow it down is in AE useing the frame creation tool.

frame creation?! i did a few easy little 300 style things just for fun i used time stretch, whats frame creation? also i cheated ramping up the effect and i just cut between full speed and i think i made it like 1/3 speed. but i'm learning how to ramp it up. gotta learn after effects.

i'm messing around in AE with that now, one of the best things you can do (that i've figured out so far) is use brighness contrast and boost the contrast and bring up the brightness a little then use CC composite and set that to "color" that gives you a good look and you can play around with it but i'm actually working on it right now.

ok so here's what i got today, i'm pretty pleased with it. though its shot at a REALLY high shutter speed, and its in the shade so its sorta dark. maybe i'll try again another time

I'm pretty sure the magic bullet software by red giant would be able to provide the look that you're after. It's completely customizable, here's some samples of the presets that come with the After Effects plug-in.

yes the magic bullet IS what they actually used for 300. one hour of footage took 28 hours to render, i'll never need to do that i just think its interesting, at the moment i can't really aford magic bullet.

hey! great job on your 300 effect. I wish i could do slow mo like that. imovie sux for that kinda stuff. my only reccomendation is that you increase the yellow saturation and contrast.

That'd be reeeally funny but i'm sure it would be more like '3' than '300'

because i filmed in a fairly dark area at a very VERY STUPID high shutter speed, if i brought up the contrast any more and made it look really good, you'd never see anything haha

glad you thought it was cool!

you can almost do it in imovie, if you film you scene then you convert ALL of it to slow motion then what you do is you cut to the full speed scene when you want something to happen fast. the imovie slow motion isn't AMAZING but it'll do for a fun clip.

i tried it on imovie and its pretty choppy. then again, i have a pretty crappy camera and i think it has a low fps

nooneimportant77

well unless your shooting in film your camera dosn't realy have fps, i'm working on it in imovie now just to see if i can do it, its looking ok

EDIT: here is a short piece i did with the same footage in imovie, the soft focous actually looks really good and i'm going to put that over the better footage with the final cut pro plug in.

You got me interested in trying this for myself. So here's me swinging a metal pole around in my backyard.

The zooms kinda choppy and annoying but eh, whatever.

Those look great, just remember when they did this effect the look they where going for was, just simply put, "devastating" strikes. They didn't just randomly speed up, or slow down, the film. Though it seems like it when you look at the actors in the background.

You got to really break down the progression of the scene. If you watch the scene in question, you see the director isn't just randomly ramping up the camera speed, then slowing it down. You really have a steady progression.

1.) Leonitus finds target, prepares to swing.
2.) Camera is ramped up as leonitus swings his sword.
3.) Camera is slowed down to half-speed after the initial strike has been made.
4.) Leonitus brings his sword back to the ready.
5.) repeat step 1.

Whats going on in the background is really trivial, for the most part. You want the focus to be your actor and these just devastating strikes he's making. Which, in the end, is why you're doing this effect. It makes even weak attacks look horrible, not bad, but just like it would mangle a small kitten if you tried to pet it... or something.

Hate to point it out, but both nooneimportant and myself are considerably lacking in the targets department. I was just playing around in Vegas, I can't speak for nooneimportant, but I wasn't trying to mimic 300's devastating blows. Thanks for the input. I'm seriously considering writing an action short to be shot in this style, and that stuff definitely helps in the long-run.

I'm just saying in general, of course you could still do this effect. How about beating up a pillow with this? =D or, or.. a playing kick the can.

yeeeeeeeeeeeeah it would all look cooler if we had something to kill haha

EDIT: what did you use for it all?

I'm guessing you're talking about the editing. I used Sony Vegas for all of it. Shot it on my crappy DV camera.

If you go to www.videocopilot.net (http://www.videocopilot.net) there are some FANTASTIC tutorials. THere's even a free system of tutorials to get you started in AE and I think he explains Time Remapping there.
