I need to get some Mini-DV Tapes, and I was wondering if there are any specific brands I should look for/look out for? I used to think it didn't really matter, but recently my camera has been quite...fickle concerning my tapes and I was wondering it you guys had any preferences.
Also, what are your thoughts on head cleaners? Are there different kinds suited for different things?

You should always use the same brand tapes on your camera,
probably Sony tapes are the best.

Does it really make much difference? Whatever's cheapest! Besides recording to HDD is the future anyway!

I don't really care what brand of DV tapes I use. I just go to Sam's Club or Costco and get whatever they have in the 10 pack. That's the best way to do it cause the 10 pack is only like $20.

I'd certainly suggest the SONY premiums as well. And make note, if you switch the brand of tapes you use in your camera after using one brand for a long time, be sure to use a head cleaner before doing so. It prolongs the life of your camcorder because different brands of tape use different lubricants that run through your camera playback heads. That difference in lubricant can cause drop frames in your image and lessen your camera's lifespan. Of course, not doing it isn't going to cause your camera to break, but someday it may die out a little sooner than you want it to :)
Happy filming!

I work over in electronics at target and get asked that a lot just pay attention to how much they can record and the price theres not really much difference between them at all.

Always use one brand of tapes. My old cam broke because I always used different brands. Panasonic make the best tapes. Sony tapes are BAD!

Sony makes really good tapes. JVC tapes aren't very good, although they are cheap.

Haha, figures. Turns out I've got some old JVC, Fujifilm, and Sony right here, used. That can't be good...
