To make a copy of a editing software and give it to someone. Cause I was thinking of making copies and giving them to whoever needs one.

depends, if you are licenced to use a x amount of copies you can give people who help you on the project acses to a copy (they have to remove the copy afterwards when they stop working with you).

this kind of deal is usualy only avalible/interesting for companies and schools and not to the general public.

Just giving copies to your friends probely isn't a good idea

It depends. Generally, allowing someone to use your disk to install the software, isn't a problem as long as they are using the copy to install the trial version, OR as long as they purchase their own unique key for the software from the software company.

Allowing them to use the disk, and use your key is illegal if you are also using the software, if you are no longer using the software, you can give it to someone else as a present, but you can't use the software anymore, you've got to uninstall it from your computer.

But making a single copy of most of your software for archival purposes (as in if the original disk gets destroyed in an accident) is legal, but not letting someone else use the software with your activation key, that's the really 'no-no' part.

Umm... what? I just got negative rep or something (a red square) that says, "not if it's shareware BONGGGGGG". What does a red square mean?

I'm pretty sure that's illegal.

I'm positive it's illegal.

It means we've given community policing powers to preteens.

I imagine that if you get so many red squares then you'll get autobanned or other such punishment. I can't really say for sure because I'm not sure how they set up their board.

Maybe WesScog knows what red squares mean. I can't find out what they are.

It means someone gave you negative rep.

It doesn't matter regardless, you've already gotten enough positive rep that you're already distinguished.

That's ridiculous. Why would anyone give you negative rep for telling the truth? Oh, never mind... I know the answer already:
"It means we've given community policing powers to preteens."

So your saying its ok to make copies for someone if they are working with you on a project or something?

That's still illegal in the stictest sense. The legal version of that is to let somebody use your software on your computer.

They make special licenses for large production studios that need to have multiple copies running at once or that need to network for parallel processing through a server.

Smaller set-ups come out ahead by buying the number they need individually.

Yay! Don't copy that floppy!

The irony is that the videogame market exploded in the late 80s and early 90s and I'm pretty sure lots of floppies were copied.

I'm still trying to find "Don't Copy That Commie" that great 80s anticommunism PSA.
