so i'm thinking about doing a few 1-2 minute shorts, some probably even shorter, of these two teenagers, who are always in the same place, and something really strange always happens right infront of them, but they're always almost totally un affected.

like i'll do one where someone walks out infront of them, and the persons head blows up, and the two kids are just like

"damn. that sucks"

i'm thinking about doing one where someone gets like hit by a car, or abducted by aliens.

anyone think this is slightly funny? any suggestions as to what should happen infront of the two people?

I think it would be funny as a joke within a short, not as the entire punchline to a short though.

You've to imagine that this would get real old and predictable after a while.

yeah i would only do 2 or three of them. and now that i think about it it'll probably be more like 45 seconds to a minute and a half max. otherwise it would get pretty old.

I think its a good idea. Thats kind of along the same lines of how I came up with my cat videos. Something extremely short and funny. But next-tarantino is right it'll get old quick. If you check out Electricity Cat, Serial Killer Cat, and Adultery Cat on my youtube page you'll see how with the first 2 we made them quick and short. But to keep the "series" going we made a longer one and put more thought into it. Check them out.

Well, if there are only going to be a couple of them, I'd say do it.

You're going to really have to work at it though to pull off that punchline just right.

yeah, i need actors who really get the joke, i think i can do it.

I'm sure you'll do just fine. What I'm talking about, however, is your editing. You need to let the visuals/editing help bring that punchline home.

well i'll probably write it within the next few days. it'll be something like a wide shot of the 2 kids, they'll be doing nothing really, i think i'll have one of them drinking a soda or something. then like a mid shot of them looking around at nothing. rear mid of them watching whats going on infront of them. then like a 3/4 mid of the reactions from both of them.

i'm sure it'll be more elaborate then that when i write it.

It sounds pretty cool. I think the abducted by aliens one would be funny. You need one with bigfoot chasing a little kid along big city streets. And the two are like "wow, big dog" er something like that.

All you would need is a big foot costume.

You could use a gorilla suit, or make a big foot costume.

I you set it up well then it would work.

Where are you thinking they would be standing?

If it is front of a school, then set it up as during Finals Week, the pressure got tot them.

If in front of a 7-11, then what if it was an elderly person?

Remember with comedy to follow the rule of three.

EXT. OUTSIDE STORE - DAY
Two teenagers with no expression are next to the door.

TEEN 1
Dude.

Teen 2 nods.

Teen 2
Dude.

A crackhead walks past them, puts on a sky mask, then enters store. CHOAS ensues in the store. The crackhead runs out past the teens. They have still no expression.

An elderly lady walks past them. She grabs the door struggles with it, gets it open, goes inside.

INT. COUNTER - CONTINUOUS

The clerk acknowledges her.

LADY
A lotto scratch ticket please.

She pays the clerk, leaves.

EXT. OUTSIDE STORE - CONTINUOUS
The teens do nothing as the lady struggles to get out the door. She gasps for breath as she gets out, she holds up a quarter.

The teens glance her direction as she scratches off the lotto ticket. He eyes gets big.

LADY
I won! I won!

Her head EXPLODES! Her body drops to the ground. The teens still show no emotion.

TEEN 1
Damn, that sucks.

Teen 2
Yeah.

The quarter lands on teen 1's foot, he picks it up. Shows it to teen 2
TEEN2
That's so cool!

CHoas ensues around them.

FADE OUT:

SET UP the joke

reinforce the set up

thats funny, but it might be a little hard to get an old woman to snap her head back, and drop to the ground as though her head blew up.

Um, wouldn't that be acting and special effects? I know the perfect actress, she's 50 or so and takes falls like a pro-wrestler. I've worked with her on several occasions.

You've seen the episode on how to make a zombie head here? And how to make a stunt dummy?

Just busting your chops, it wouldn't be that difficult.

alright, thats great, you know an actress that would do it. i dont. i'm not going to make a stunt dummy or a fake head for it. that looks too fake for me.

Put an ad on Craigslist. Just make sure when you meet with the actors you do it in a public place. Never bring them to your house for the first meeting.

If this isn't an option. Try an ad in your local paper. Be honest with what you want and provide a copy of the finished project at the minimum for compensation. If you can feed them too. You'll be surprised how many actors want to work.

If this isn't an option ask friends and family. You only want to use the stunt dummy for a second or so. You'll need an actor for most of your scene.

You don't want the dummy to be obvious.

Get her permission first! Boy did that turn out badly. How old do you think elderly is?

You better answer correctly!
