So im makeing a film right, and i need a certain voice for one of my actors. The problem is in my small town no one has the voice im looking for. Anyways...last night im playing a video game and i run across one character who has the voice i need! and get this, one of his phrases is allmost word for word what i wrote down in the screenplay. The film will be on sale in my small town (all the money goes toward a charity) and it might be playing in the local theater.
So here is my question, if i take a 12 second recording of the mans voice from the game and put it in my movie could i get into some legal issues? Im pretty sure no one from the game comany will even hear of this movie, but its better safe then sorry i allways say.
Thanks for any help! good luck on yalls films and such.

It's technically illegal, yes, but, it's not for profit, so it's a stretch to suggest that even if by chance someone involved in the game heard it, that they would seek charges against you, especially if you gave the original voice actor credit in your project.

it's illegal.
Money is being made. Even if no money were being made it's still illegal. Anytime you use copyrighted material (in this case it would be both copyrighted material and a performance for which you do not have a release) it's infringement.
That aside, yes, many people have done it (lord knows Ive done it many of times), but you run the risk every time. It's up to you, but I wouldn't sell it or charge money for the admission. But a slight loophole would be to give the dvd out as a bonus for donating to X charity, or give out tickets for doing similar. Then the dvd/admission isnt a good being paid for, it's something Ive heard of... not sure how it hold up...

You could record it, chop it up, extend the time a few seconds between phrases,
or even slow it down a notch. Nobody would know. But still, at the end, just write:
Special thanks:
