Would it be possible to use motion capture to add somebodies face to a fake head when you decapitate them or blow the head up?

if you mean motion tracking then yes. i guess it could be done with motion capture too, but thats rather expensive.

yeah, totally do-able, whatch the videocopilot tutorial with the deamon face, he shows how to stick sunglasses onto an actors face so its like they're wearing them, you'd do the same basic thing with the dummy head

Absolutely possible, yes. That's how I intend to do it when I need to. They do that in Hollywood productions all the time.

Yeah but it would be kind of difficult to keep everything coordinated and smooth.

not really, thats what the motion tracking is for, once you do something like smash the head in though you should probably mask out the areas that are smashed, or whatever, and add a shadow on that area, it'll be so quick you wont even see it.

Throughout most of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hobbits faces were superimposed onto midget actors bodies using motion tracking. It's not as daunting as it first seems.

i actually know the first time this was ever used, in jurassic park there is a scene where a stunt actor had to fall through a vent, and she looked up at the camera, so they replaced her face with the real actors.
