I have two scenes that happen in a library. So what do I have to ask them to shoot in there? my biggest question is who to ask... Just a librarian organizing books some where? Or the check out person?
Once I find out who I need to ask im just gonna give him a copy of the script, point out which scenes we'll be shooting at the library, give him our call sheets for the scenes and warn him that one of the scenes involve blood.
The library started a film festival in town so im hoping that they'll say yes.

ooo tough. Try a school library after hours. Public Librarys would be hard to get in. I'd say just ask though. And try to be quiet.

Well if they started the film festival then they might be more willing. But you should ask the librarian who you should talk to about arranging that. If you flat out ask a librarian if you can shoot you might come off a little pushy.

if they started the festival its likely they;ll say yes to filming but probbaly not to the blood because it may make a mess but ive filmed a short in a library and they didnt seem to mind us there

Ask the person in charge, a manager or head librarian. The school library is a good option too.

I missed the blood part:
Rewrite your script so you won't be doing the blood scene in the library. They'll want you to have insurance and all sorts of headaches.
DON'T SHOOT THE BLOOD SCENE IN THE LIBRARY!

Or just do a close up of the blood later, not shot in the library.

but the blood part is essential. I need it. I can't afford taking it out or rewriting it because its a huge part of the story... can I shoot it in a row of books that nobody goes to? Well i guess you guys don't have the answer to that question. How do I contact the head librarian?

There is ALWAYS a way to rewrite a script. It may be a huge part of the story but there will always be a way to rewrite it.

if you HAVE to do the blood in the library, bring your own small tarp, or somthing to put on the ground. or you could get some backround pictures/video of the library, and then greenscreen yourself in.

ladri is right, but if you cant do it, make your own mini library. ask your friends for books, and use a shelf.

thats a good idea speekerphone, but i think it would be kinda hard. you'd have to build a mini room. unless you just use a shelf, and dont show anything else behind your character.

yeah, BandD is right. most people are fine w/ you filming there, as long as you ask them. guerilla filmmaking only really works in big places, like a huge mall (MAYBE) or a zoo.

If your going to splatter blood on an entire book case full of books you aren't going to get permission. Why don't you shoot your actor reading a book and then when he gets shot or whatever take a cheaper book cut to a close up of it and splatter blood on it at home or something. Are you sure its essential or do you just think blood splattering on books would be an awesome shot?

the blood is on a guy... i was thinking of doing the make up at home and then bring the guy over to the library... shoot his bit first then he can go to the bathroom and clean up...
Ask nice and explane that you need blood, mabey they have some old books they want to get rid of that you can use for your gore shot.
Offer the people who work there a smal part (as the people who work in the libary so you don't have to train your extra's)

Just walk in with your camera and when the librarian comes walking up to you asking you "just what in the blue hell do you think you are-"
and that's where you just coldly stiff arm her in the face while walking right by her.
or...you could just ask them nicely?

Get to know the library staff( the lady who owns the library where i am sitting is offering me a cappachino as we speak) and you should be able to do just about anything in a library. As long a theres no blood and gore and youre not firing blanks everywhere you should be able to shoot there.

I wasn't saying don't do it, just find a way that you don't have to that part in the library.
You could have a chase start in the library, then move outside. Then get as bloody as you want to.
The best way to talk to the head librarian is to ask for them.
