Okay here me out.
I'm shooting my first short film in months. I need to edit this peice by peice because it will take so long to finish.
So, I borrowed the local studios GL1 and shot at a 24 fps rate for the film look.
I got this final cut express 2 years ago so it may need an upgrade.
But every time I want to capture somthing on FCE it freezes about 5 mins into the tape. I only have 6 mins of footage.
I cant figure out whats wrong. And I want to finish this film.
PLEASE HELP!

Since you're using Final Cut, I'm assuming you have a Mac.
Since you have a Mac, I'm assuming you have iLife.
Since you have iLife I'm assuming you have iMovie.
Think about capturing the footage iMovie, then importing
it into Final Cut.

how much memory do you have? how much ram do you have? whats your processor speed? how many processors do you have? are you capturing to a different hard drive then you're editing on?

What happens when you playback the tape in the camera/ deck?

I do have FCE HD and it has been working fine up untill this point.
I am low on memory, and I do have a separate hard drive to save to, but I havent saved anything before I capture the project. Should I do that?
The rest I do not know of.

I doubt it has anything to do with the memory.

How about you capture 3 minutes of it, stop. Then save it and open a new project...try capturing the other 3 minutes of the footage and see what happens.
See if it will get stuck at the same spot.

it doesnt do anything at the same spot.
But i remembered that i had tried this before by importing the last min and it was fine. Then I imported the rest and I let it completely import all the way and it froze at the same spot.

Okay....so if you just import 3 minutes; save and then import the other 3 minutes, you should be fine.
