My friends and family kept telling me to watch movies they mention then the next week would ask me if I watched it and I would have forgotten it. So I made a list.
I started to make this list last year and I finished about 3 months later. Then after doing some research on the movies my friends told me to add on the list I wanted to add those. So originally is was 100, then 205, and finally it's...
300 Movies To See Before I'm 18!!
So anyway, I thought i would share this list with you. I will put my ratings on here too which are:
Must Own! = INCREDIBLE!!
=) = Very Good!
=/ = So-so...
=( = Bleh...
List will be in next post.

Blade Runner at 47?! Bump that film up the list! It's the ultimate film to see before you die - probably because it teaches you so much about life.
But don't expect to 'get' the film the first time you watch it - there's no voice-over or much to help you understand what's going on. It also shows how unbelievably realistic and awesome miniatures can look, not to mention it was directed by Ridley Scott, one of my favourite directors, and Vangelis' soundtrack couldn't fit the film more perfectly.
And make sure you watch the 4k remastered scan Final Cut of the film, released last year.
I'll stop talking now. Honest. ;)

Tarantino sucks a bag of c**ks. Reservoir Dogs sucked, especially when you realize you're actually watching a sh**tier version of Kubrick's 'The Killing'.
Pulp Fiction is okay though. Four Rooms was hilarious, but his segment is definetly not as good as Rodriguez's.
After you mature a bit, you begin to see Kevin Smith films for what they really are: new jersey trash. purely shite.
And after you've seen Sin City for the first or second time and have gotten past the pleasant visual style and cinematography, you can clearly see the horrible acting, dumb plot lines, and overall cheesiness of the film.
I suggest you add the Danny Boyle film 'Sunshine'. Amazing, breathtaking film. The ending is a little lackluster (as is the case with many Alex Garland scripts) but even so, still great. Similar to 2001: Space Odyssey but without space babies, monkey suits, and seizure inducing special effects self-wankery.

Same with me, I think it's a great great movie.
It's because so many people went into it with the mindset of, "Yay! Adam Sandler film! This'll be so funny!" and they sat there in the dark, staring confused, waiting 89 minutes for a fart joke to break the monotony, until they just gave up on it all together, walking away from the film feeling cheated because it didn't live up to their expectations.

I've seen Sin City three times now and I still love it. I really want to read the graphic novels when I get the money. And Tarantino movies enertain me too much for me to care about what the haters say.

Shadow of the Vampire is indeed awesome! You can't go wrong with Malkovich.
Going down the list, I would definitely try to squeeze The Deer Hunter into your next viewing slot, that film is a-mazing.
Also.. The Big Lebowski. Everyone should experience that one before they die. Possibly the greatest thing ever committed to celluloid.

After going back over the list the only thing that jumps out to me is:
Jackass the movie = MUST OWN! while
Night of the Living Dead = :) ???
Not only is NOTLD a fantastic fucking movie, but it should be pretty near the top of the list for independent filmmakers as inspiration.
George Romero produced the film on a $114,000 budget, and after a decade of cinematic re-releases, it grossed some $12 million domestically and $30 million internationally.
That, my friends, is film making at its finest and a definite must own!

I need to reupdate this list. I've watched quite a few of these since the last time I updated it. Big Lebowski is awesome. The Deer Hunter I really want to see but it's long, so I have to make some time in the day for that one.

Jackass I say must own, because it was so fun to watch. I'm a fan of the Jackass series.
I love zombies as well, and I give credit to Mr. Romero but I was expecting to be scared by the first one of his series, and I wasn't so it lost some credit there. And Dawn, which I've now seen, wasn't scary at all, it was much more of an action movie.
but keep in mind a :) is like a 7-9 out of 10. So it's not like I'm hating it, it's just not something that I will repeaditly watch or must have as a priority. I already own it lol.

I wonder about the man who seriously thinks Jackass a better film than Night of the Living Dead.
Okay, confession time. I don't like the Godfather. It bores the hell out of me and Marlin Brando's voice is beyond infuriating. I wish to step on that man's throat for thinking that obnoxious mumbling was compelling in any regard.
Sin City is difficult for me to judge. Visually, it's stunning. Other than that, it's pretty average. I really like Mickey Rourke as Violent Marv, though - I think he was one of the few actors who appreciated how silly it was a ran with it. It's hard to fault it - it's the best adaptation I could envision of the source material. Unfortunately, the source material was crap.

Says the man who didn't like The Godfather...j/k.
If the movie was something like how everyone has told me it was then I may have liked it better. I usually don't try and expect things from movies but people kept telling me how amazing and scary it was. Which I think it was amazing, especially for it's budget and the time it was made but it didn't scare me at all. I probably just saw it too late.

Citrus! You know I am a fan of your post and think you very cool! There's a problem with this type of list though...
It's too subjective.
I'm not criticizing your list! I think there's some films that you've overlooked.
The Toxic Avenger (every independent filmmaker has to see this film about 100 times). You won't understand my philosophy behind this until about the 94th viewing.
Also I had to open a second window to go through this. So if I screw up, oops!
Part of the issue is your age (not a diss), there's so many films that need to be watched but being 18 is kind of a requirement.
Not before, but on your 18th birthday watch SICK- The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist.
This documentary blew my mind! It took me 3 days to watch it. I'd get disgusted, shut it off and think about it, then start it up again. This film gets inside your head!
It makes my top 5 films of all time. FYI my personal top 5 list is about 50 films or more.
How are A Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove so far down on your list? It is your list and I respect that, I'm just trying to see your decision process.
Roadhouse is in my top 3 films of all time so I can't go on someone about a list of films,LOL.
This is the final version of my list of movies. My goal is to watch all of them by my 18th birthday. Right now I have watched : 106 : movies.

The Big Lebowski is a great film to watch over and over again for structure and learning purposes.

Honest. ;)
Bladerunner (my opinion) is overratted. But it is better then Starwars (the most overratted film ever). I hate that film.

What do you mean by too subjective? Cus this is really just a list of movies my friends, family, peers, teachers, ect. have told me that i should watch, there are also a lot that I was just wanting to watch or have heard a lot of film buffs mention. I haven't seen a lot of the greats cus I was very narrow minded when i was younger, i only liked the action and comedy movies that were brand new, and my mom ran a video store so I got the new videos about 2 weeks before they hit shelves.
And the numbering sysytem means NOTHING, it was just for me to keep track of where I was.
This list was for me and me alone, I just posted it to let others see it for whatever purpose they wanted.
I've already asked some other mogulers and Jared what some must see's are and I've put those on a seperate list of things to watch on the side (oldboy, The Following, Traffic).
And the ratings are based on a lot of different aspects, mostly depending on the movie, like for Bad Boys. I've heard it was a bad movie but a fun one, I had a lot of fun watching it and would gladly watch it again and again, which is why it's a must own. Raging Bull, I've heard was a great movie, I watched and loved it, but it's a draining movie so it's not like I can watch it day after day. But it is still a must own in my opinion.
i hope that clears some things up.

I figured out the number thing later. I have some films that will completely change your outlook.
Inside-It has been discussed here but not in depth.
Every Roger Corman movies ever made!
Pink Flamingos
Female Trouble
Micheal & Me
then follow it ASAP with
Roger & Me,
HG Lewis' entire body of work.
Any film that ends with ploitation as part of it's genre.
I noticed your list is very Hollywood'ish.
When you turn 18 you need to plan a road trip and when you get here to Spokane we'll spend 5 days watching my list of significant films. You can drive around the country and stop and watch films that others have in their 300 list.
Your list will expand to 30,000...LOL.
DOn't forget to explore foreign and documentary titles.
Find Soylent Green- It's about recycling! Well, I mean being off on that point but you have to see it.
I wish you the best with watching your list!
The list is subjective (don't take it in a bad way) because everyone like different things.

I want to go cross country both ways (since I'm in Indiana). I'll talk to you when I'm about to leave to set up the 5 days lol. Hey, yesterday I went to an open air film festival here in the neighborhood, and it was really cool, wait, lemme get the link: http://www.plukdenacht.nl/index.php?82 everyone is sitting in beach chairs and watching this huge curtain on which the film is projected (the bright light is the projector.) Well, anyway, most important thing, I watched two good movies: The paper will be blue and Mr. Lonely, I liked The paper will be blue better but Mr. Lonely was fun too :) And btw, can I come too on the film marathon? And another btw, Ray, don't you think LOTR 3 is way more overrated than Star Wars?

I thought it was hilarious, a American Pie type movie but in a different perspective and not a Teen movie.
Am I the only person who didn't like Superbad!??
You should add Hot Fuzz. I just saw it, great movie.
I didn't like it that much the first time I saw it, I only liked certain parts but the second time I watched it I thought it was hilarious. I've always loved the cops and McLovin.

Good list. It makes me realize how many 100's of great films there are....
It's not really a film per say, but the old Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes have some great gems buried in there. HULU has the first 2 seasons free... I love "Breakdown (http://www.hulu.com/watch/284/alfred-hitchcock-presents-breakdown)"
Also, this place has pretty good deals on dvd's and no shipping!
I use it all the time. They can be a bit slow shipping, but sometimes have great deals on harder to find stuff. Deep Discount (http://www.deepdiscount.com)

I HAVE FINISHED HALF MY LIST!!! I just finished my 150th movie a few hours ago, and when I counted up my list just now, it was the halfway point. That movie was The Deer Hunter! So now, I have to go through and edit the rankings on my list again.
