I said PS3 because of cost and games library.

im a Wii guy myself but
if you want fun get a Wii
If you want hardcore gaming get an xbox
if you want a gadget get a ps3
But i couldnt care less. ive got a wii, my bro just got a ps3(he prolly wont let me use it though) and pretty much all games for the xbox are available on pc
I voted for both just so i could see the results

Failure rate for xbox 360 -----> 33%
Failure rate for PS3 ----------> less then 1%
Xbox cost: 350.00 + 50.00 per year ------------in two years 450.00 in four years 550.00 ect.
PS3 cost: 500.00 atm (soon to be 400.00)------in two years 400.00 (free online)

I agree completely.
And to Imbender, that was the failure rate at launch (The launch systems had problems :P. and look up reviews comparing X-Box Live to PSN. X-Box Live is much better.
Oh and over here in the land of Aus, Our PS3s are 1000 with our 360s at 600. So our PS3s are even more of a ripoff here.

So your never going to buy a game for them thats like 49.99 for Xbox360 and 60 or 70 for PS3
Xbox360 online games --------------- A LOT!+ Halo 3 and Xbox
PS3 online games-------------------- Little big planet and maybe one or two more.
They both have good Graphics and Xbox has SO many more Good games and PS3 only have a few okay games and even less good games. But there are coming out with 300 new games by 2009. So they will have more good games.

360 is way better than PS3, and that's sad, because I truly am a big Sony fan. I loved my PS2. But the fact of the matter is PS3 only has one good game, and $600 is alot to pay for one game...

Well the 360 has also been out more than twice as long as the PS3 so of course it's going to have a higher failure rate, and they fixed it for free, plus they are updating the internals so it won't have that problem anymore.
Also you don't have to pay for on-line gaming, and 50 dollars a year isn't the only possible plans.
If you're just a casual gamer, you can just pay the 8 dollars every now and again and you get a full month of online play.
Not to mention that when they drop the 360's price again next year, it's going to be way lower than 400.
And i've seen Sony's free on-line play, not really that impressed, in a simple football game the lag was HORRIBLE.
If that is what is free, i'll pay, thank you very much.

I believe that most (not all) PS3 fans are either not full-on gamers (eg they like PS3s other features, such as Blu-Ray), or they are Sony Fanboys (they were fans of previous consoles so they stand by sony no matter what).
I feel I used to be a sony fanboy, I so thought the PS3 was awesome and that the 360 sucked because it wasn't as powerful.
After that I bought a PSP and I didn't find it that fun, but I got some interest in homebrew (because most of the games were crap, so I used they homebrew to play other console games on emulators :P).
Then I wanted a PS3 but with a straight up price tag like that, I started to realise I probably couldn't afford it.
Then my friends got 360s and I started to realise that the games library and the price of the 360 compared to the PS3 made the 360 a better gaming console.

Lag is no longer a matter of the ps3 online or xbox live online but rather the house holds speed and the game. Resistance = 0 lag with 40 people in a room... I was not saying that xbox sucks... Am I a sony fan... sure i guess. But obviously you are a fan of xbox no? The expectations for the PS3 were set much higher then then what was revealed and that is true but overall I personally think that the ps3 is better. The stats are better, the system has never had major compatabily issues, and is much more solid. So what if its ugly. My computer is much less attractive but im not gona hold it against it. It is pricy... but it is comparable to the 360. The thing that bugs me most is xbox fans claiming Halo is the end all be all, greatest game ever.I will give you its the most trendy game. It is over rated. (not saying its a bad game [don't bite my head off xbox fans :steve:] just saying it is highly over rated. *cough* like the ipod *cough*). Did I say that out loud? Does ps3 have its own halo? No, sadly the guys at sony suck at marketing. They really do. However I personally think that Resistance has been over looked to some degree. For a system launch game... for any game its very good. However there are many titles in Sony's future that have to potential to be outstanding. Same with the xbox but maybe there next big game will be on the next xbox system. Xbox was release 2001, xbox 360 released 2005. thats 4 years! I cain't spend that kind of cash every four years. the ps2 was released in 2000 and ps3 was released in 2006. 6 years isn't much better, however the ps3 doesn't replace the ps2. The ps3 is for those who want next gen games. While they still continue to make ps2 games. The PS3 has the tech to last 8 - 10 years down the road. Keep in mind I like both systems. I feel that the ps3 will last longer and im not really interested in halo and as for gears of war... well I have resistance, and some really good titles to look forward too, oh and home will be fun 2. After this long drawn out post wich i hope no one waste their time reading, and now that i've p.o. 90% of the people who are gona read this I'd like to get everyone involved... The wii sucks (unless you are a kid). It Has a real cheap toy feel that utilizes the best of 1980's technology, the remote control! Their games just feel like they are geared towards a younger population(maybe 14 and under but they are great at marketing). Wii is at the bottom while the 360 and ps3 hangout together way above it.
Ricardodude

Yeah, there are a few upcoming PS3 titles that I might buy a PS3 for. But at the moment I'm going to buy a 360. And yeah the PS3 has the power to last longer, and hopefully the upcoming titles will get the PS3 more sales.
I've only played and finished Halo 1 atm so I want to play the others before I say it was overhyped or not.
The Wii sometimes does seem aimed towards some younger gamers, but its not just aimed for them, look at Manhunt 2, Metroid, Red Steel and I'm sure theres many others but I just don't know much about it :P
I'm sure it is still fun, and I might get it as a second console, after I get my 360 (hopefully a few weeks).
And yeah people with long posts I find more like they know what they're saying, because they have a lot to say, So good post :)

How can you say this? The 360 is a Microsoft BRICK, whereas the PS3 is a beautifully crafted, semi-see-thru, ergonomically perfect love making machine ;) lol
P.S, X-Boxes Break (alot) --- PS3's/2's + even PSX still run 100% after all this time, and I own launch editions of all three (not that that's a boast, just saying all three still work even though they're launch editions)

To be honest they all have strong points as well as faults.
Playstation 3, does have superior graphics to that of the X-Box 360 and Nintendo Wii, but at the expense of reduced framerate.
X-Box 360 does crash a lot, but Microsoft does fix any problem resulting in the dreaded 'Crimson Omen' for free.
And finally, the Wii, while bringing an unprecedented level of interactivity to gaming, has a relatively weak library for the hardcore gamer, in favor of the casual crowd (Making Nintendo the smartest marketing-wise).
I myself own an X-Box 360 because most of the games that come out for PS3 that I want to play are also on 360.
As for the argument over which systems look better: Really? Is this even relevant?
I don't know about the rest of you, but when I play video games, I pay attention to the screen.
But to my earlier point: There is no 'worst' system. It's all a matter of personal tastes in games and technology. Many people buy PS3 for it's Blu-Ray capability, but I happen to favor good ol' fashioned DVD for now.

See that? It's a game called the Conduit, and guess what? It's Wii exclusive.
Now, you're probably going "No way, it looks too nice for the Wii!" Well, it's because it's pushing the Wii to it's limits to be a game graphically comparable to an early 360 release, and it's probably going to be good. So everyone who's saying Halo makes the 360 the best, this might be a big competitor for Halo if it goes to plan.

Xbox live is only good becuz you have to pay for it, im sticking with ps3 becuz online is free. Those people complaining about ps3's price and saying xbox is cheaper, in a couple of years the amount you spent on xbox will be alot more than ps3. Think ahead
Oh and as for the Wii, I don't even know why it's involved in this thread, it was about the 360 and PS3

PS3 has Blu Ray - am I right... so it's a way to get a player in your house...
360 went with HD-DVD.... ahem.:(
At the risk of banging on about the Wii, my bro's got one and it has somewhat annoying music that goes on and on and on and on etc etc etc during some online games etc.
Can you switch that stuff off - if so I'll buy a Wii. If not, they've lost a sale.

I get so annoyed when people say, "The PS3 is too expensive, so it sucks. Xbox is better because I can afford it."
Thats pretty much what most of you just said.
As a PS3 owner, I am so a hardcore gamer!
The thing is I'm not sure if any of you own a PS3. I own one of my own, I stripped my pockets dry and saved like crazy to buy it. Not once has it overheated, crashed, or gave me any serious repairment problem.
The price is reasonable, seeing how that as the price gets higher there are more features included. Plus, free games are included.
PS3 Pros
- Cheap Blu-Ray Disc Player
- Free Online
- Gaming at 1080p resolution
- Sixaxis controllers
- Wireless online connection capabilities
- Connects up to 14 controllers at a time. (Beat that Xbox!)
- Plays DVDs, BRDVs, CD, and Games
- Capable of connecting to PSP (Like the Gamecube can connect to the Gameboy)
- Rarely overheats
Cons
- Online can be laggy (depending on how good your server connection is)
- Constant software updates
- Bluetooth headset is hard to work with
- Most adaptors for PS2 controllers and memory cards don't work
Xbox Pros
- Halo 3 and a slightly bigger variety of games
- Cheaper at face value
- Gamer points system
- HD-DVD Capabilities (Even though those were defeated by the almighty Blu-Ray)
- Gaming at 1080p resolution
- Plays previous Xbox games
- Wireless controllers
- Online rumored to be better but gamer is required to pay monthly
- Also plays DVDs
Cons
- Lots of recalls
- Notorious for oveheating
- Only connects 2 controllers at a time
- Online requires payment (and is NOT lag free)
- HD-DVD not available anymore

V. Insightful - thanks. When you say 'free online' I take it to mean that you can surf the whole .net ?
One question tho - I think that the XBox 360 can be rigged up to a PC as a 'media node' or something - so that you can transfer files from PC to watch on TV... has the PS3 got anything like this ?

I like them both game wise, but I think I have to go with Xbox 360 being worst.
The PS3 has blu ray compatibility built in while the xbox360 only has an hddvd drive you have to buy seperately. HD Dvd's aren't even going to be made anymore.
Also, the PS3 has free online access whereas you need to pay for Xbox live.
Fiinally, the PS3 has metal gear solid 4!!!!

I prefer my 360 over my Wii, and my Wii over my PS3.
For starters, my 360 has a better online connection. My PS3 connections constantly goes out whether it's wired or wireless.
360 has better games that I want to play. I have the 60 GB PS3, so I can play my old games on it, but I rarely do.
My PS3 gets most of its use as a Blu-Ray player, while my 360 gets most of its use from games rather than using my HD-DVD drive. Yes, I have both, and had them before Blu-Ray was taking over.
You can charge 360 controllers without the 360 being fully on.
360 has custom soundtrack, which I hear PS3 will incorporate, but it won't be on the older games.
360 downloads simply download, no need to install them.
PSP compatibility isn't that great on PS3. I hear Zune works really well, and Windows Media Center works pretty good.

I prefer the PS3. The online is good especially after the update. Good games. No red rings. Never crashes. Free online. Built in blu ray dvd player(reason for it being expensive). doesnt over heat. Not loud. plug a usb into the controller to the ps3 and it starts charging
My brother owns an xbox and he has had 4 xboxs and i dont see whats so different on the online its preactically the same on the ps3 as the xbox.
I own a wii and its great just the online isn't good and i don't enjoy all the games on it but most of them are great and very fun and you can get exersise from them.

plug a usb into the controller to the ps3 and it starts charging
But if you turn off the PS3, it stops charging. The 360 will continue to charge the controller battery even after the 360 is turned off.

I prefer the 360. Mostly because I have some of my favorite original Xbox games on there. What I really like is the fact that I can download a lot of games off of Xbox live. Which makes me keeping the original versions that I have spread out on various consoles now obsolete
The only problem I have with the 360 is the large hardware problems it has. (RROD among others.) Though it all goes down to you taking really good care of your console (treating it like god among consoles)

You know, many Xbobx 360 exclusives are now being ported to the PS3. I think I still want an Xbox for Halo and Gears of War and such but COD4, Bioshock, etc. And I know PS3 exclusives are also being ported to Xbox.
I think the PS3 might prevail in the future but the Xbox 360 is ahead right now.

It can play DVDs just fine. It was the original XBOX which needed a remote to allow you to play DVDs if I remember correctly (and you had to buy the remote separately). The HD-DVD add on is obsolete now anyway, so you'll have to stream HD video to the 360 to be able to play it.

It was true for the XBOX (original) - at least somewhat true - because you needed to buy a separate XBOX brand remote to be able to watch DVDs. I don't know if that was changed with an update or anything along the line, but that's at least how I remember it working for the original XBOX.

It was true for the XBOX (original) - at least somewhat true - because you needed to buy a separate XBOX brand remote to be able to watch DVDs. I don't know if that was changed with an update or anything along the line, but that's at least how I remember it working for the original XBOX.
yeah i think i was thinking of that too

You must not have bought a a lot of games
No More Heroes is fantastic
Smash Bros is amazing
Super Mario Galazy rocks
Red Steel is fun
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles is fun
and Mad World looks insane.
But I also want a 360. Mostly to play on live with a lot of my friends and the little japanese 3 year olds lol

The Powerglove is where it's at.
In all seriousness though, the motion tracking of the Wii is quirky and cool enough to let it survive in a console generation where Nintendo didn't have much on Sony or Microsoft. The other consoles are going for maximum graphics and and speed, while Nintendo decided to go for playability/user experience. The Wii is more fun as a party console, compared to the Wii as a stand alone.

At this point, I'd say Wii is the worst. I've always been a Nintendo fanboy since the NES days. I even pulled through the life cycle of the Gamecube. When the Wii came out, I was super stoked on it. I got it at the Midnight launch. I've yet to experience a truly immersive game that uses the Wii to its full potential due to the fact that the Wii remotes are very unresponsive (Almost every game can have a button-press alternative to waggle). Nintendo doesn't give a shit about the people that supported them for the last 20 years. The only Wii games that I'm interested at this point aren't even Nintendo games; The Conduit, Madworld, and Mushroom Men. Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl are some of my favorite games ever though. :D
If Nintendo's next console is anything like the Wii, I will not be buying it.
[/rant]
I despised the PS3 when it first came out, but now it looks fantastic. I won't be buying one though.
I have a 360 and I love it. I think it looks fine (since when did a look of a system effect it's software?). Its pretty noisy though.
Even though I'm over my Wii, I still play Smash Bros. on it a lot and I know there will be a few killer titles by Nintendo in the future. I love my 360 and I play COD4 on it all the time. The argument of "which system is worse" is stupid though. Everyone has different tastes.

I have every system. Ever.
I camped in the snow/ice/rain for each one of my 'next-gen' systems.
360>Wii>PS3= Fact.
The 360 has a lot of games and excellent online play. The Xbox Live Arcade has some of the best original and remade Arcade games out there. People bitch about paying $60 a year for Live when PSN isn't worth a shit for free. lawl @ teh irony. Video store, Zune syncing, Demos galore. It's epic win.
The PS3 has ports, ex-exclusives, dropped IP's, poor online, and a lazily ported PSP interface. The system is pretty much the same size as the Xbox 1. MGS4 and Drake's are the only two exclusive games that are worth playing. One of the most hyped 'games' for the system is the freebie, HOME. I am in the HOME beta. It's boring. You walk(or run) around a poorly rendered room. Don't like that room? You can walk into another poorly rendered room with a fountain. HOME is gonna be free. Pretty much because it's just like PSN. Not worth a shit. The PS3 is this generations Dreamcast. It's ahead of it's time and rushed.
The Wii is Nintendo trying something new. Can't say the same for Sony. There are all the classic titles you have grown to love over the years available for download. Miis. Can't say I love them. Can't say I hate them. But they are there and they work. The Wii has games for everyone. Causal, Hardcore, Puzzle, etc. And most of the time, it gets you off your ass. Trust me. You can afford to burn a few calories.

I in fact can afford a PS3. But I have no urge to pay 400+ dollars for a system that has a handful of exclusives on the 360. There's no point. That's like traveling to a Taco Bell twice as far as another Taco bell for the same calupa.:steve: YAY bad analogies!

I just got a Wii...
My wife wanted one... so what could I do ? ;) She's not a 'gamer' so when I get an opportunity like that I'll take a Wii rather than nothing!
It's not that bad - much more of a 'family fun' machine and the controls are new and entertaining...
But I'm now after a PS3 or 360 I think -
I'll want to connect to the internet and hopefully use it to download and watch 'Indy flicks' on my TV - what's the best route to take d-ya reckon - PS or 360 ?
I've heard loads of horror stories about the 360 and the 'circle of death' - so I'm veering towards the PS3.

The Horror stories are way less uncommon now for the 360s.
Get one. It has a better marketplace and better games.

Speaking as a gamer who is closer to the hardcore demographic, rather than the casual, I feel I should apply some of my two cents to this topic.
I'll be up front. I do not own a Wii or a PS3. I usually do my gaming on PC and Xbox 360, and as such I do have the Xbox 360 elite "v2."
The newer 360 is awesome. Period. You can't go further than its five-freaking-hundred-somethin'-odd titles, it's wicked cool graphics, and its massive hard drive. Not to mention it works seamlessly with Windows Vista to give you an equally awesome media center experience.
*SUPER GEEKY BANTER ZONE*
I say v2, because the internals have been upgraded and modified by Microsoft at around very-early August '07 onward. That includes the processor and video chips that have the shrunken 65-nanometer process instead of the older, less-efficient 90nm cores. The main difference between them is that the 65nm die size runs much cooler, faster, and with less energy expended to run it than, say, the older chips on the boards that have been manufactured before (estimating here...) July '07. The boards that these chips are planted on are called falcon boards. You can find more information about it here (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/02/05/how-to-spot-a-falcon-65nm-360-in-the-wild/).
Oh, and there's talk about even BETTER 45nm chips being implemented in early 2009 to new models. More on that here (http://opa-ages.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6225&st=0&p=100158&#entry100158). Note - there was an error in the first post on that page corrected by a member two posts down from the first.
*END OF GEEKY BANTER*
Anyway, the chance of getting the three red rings is virtually nil now (and of course with the responsible user's approach - I'm talking about those who squeeze their 360s between tight-fitting shelves, or lay loose papers or such all over them that block crucial airflow to the console - you know who you are). Honestly, who is incapable of allowing their console just a little extra airflow?
Now, as I mentioned, I do not own a PS3, but that doesn't mean I wasn't interested in it. Like most others, I felt that the small-ish and slightly less-popular number of titles accompanying the PS3 (as opposed to the 360) kept me from buying it. I mean there IS Resistance, Metal Gear, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, but there's just not enough to really compete with the 360. That, and the fact that it wasn't even backward-compatible with PS2 titles stopped it in its tracks for me. I DO have the PS2, however, but the cruddier graphics left me wanting more, hence I got my 360 elite. Think about it... remember that the big thing about the PS2's release was that it could play DVD's too. Yowza!
The Wii piqued my interest because of its method of gameplay. Unfortunately, Nintendo just didn't release any truly exciting games that REALLY utilized the motion-sensitivity. And come ON. What's with the graphics? It seems to me that Nintendo can't get past the one gimmicky feature and give that thing some real power. I hardly think I'm the only one here who thinks this way about it.
So my choice is that the PS3 is worse than the 360. It's got friggin' sweet graphics, but just not enough games to make the cost worthwhile to me. With that said, anyone who calls me a microsoft fanboy will find that their home and/or family has disappeared while they were gone. In its place will be a smoldering pit. Of doom. =D Just kidding. OR AM I?
P.S. No console with EVER rival the raw power of a PC. Ever. You heard me. Especially THIS (http://www.hardcorecomputer.com) PC.

Hehehehehe!
Thanks for the overview. I've got a Wii - it's not what I would have wanted but it's a stopgap while the PS3 and 360 battle is going on.
My primary beef with 360 is the lack of blu-ray. It's a massive blow to 'em losing out on the HD-DVD thing. If things had been slightly different, then the chips would fall clearly down in the 360's favour.
I'm looking for a 'multi-media' system though - so there's still a PS3 edge with blu-ray.
I'm hanging on to my cash until after Christmas - then we'll see if Microsoft offer a blu-ray 'something'. Honestly, they've got the market sewn up if they do IMO!!!

Yeah... hmmm... My net connection isn't brilliant though and I'm a sucker for having a shiny disc in my hand...
This is my problem... I'm also a sucker for the whole windows media stuff...
I'll let Sony and Microsoft fight a little longer for my vote and suffer the Wii in the meantime... (which isn't so bad if truth be told). I wonder how many other people have made the same decision... This next-next gen market is still open for some serious business.

Yeah... graphically, it's not very good and the sound is going backwards - no 5.1 and even my X-Box had that.
There's the non-hardcore market though and so my other half wanted one. I was happy in order to hook up the internet to my TV really and the games are alright... It's a completely different market though - we've got loads of the 'mini games' and a couple of friends come over to play - it's more of a 'party alternative' rather than a proper gaming machine.
I reckon so far, each has a niche market...
Wii - non-hardcore, families
PS3 - multimedia / blu ray centric
360 - hardcore gamers
Once those lines get crossed in a bigger fashion, the fight's really on... I keep saying it, but if the 360 got blu-ray... ;)
