Ok, Sony TRV-280. Yes, Digital HI 8. I use it mainly for the nightshot in Ghost Hunting (http://www.freewebs.com/roseparanormal)

The picture is just ok, but good for a night shot ghost hunting camcorder and such. I need to upgrade, but with friend and I working on our first movie, we will see what camcorder we can get. Maybe get a favor and get a kick ass camcorder. :)

I use an Sony HDR-HC7. Works great for me, but I had to buy an AIS to Hotshoe adapter so I can put my Rode Mics on it (Rode Stereo X/Y VideoMic and the Rode VideoMic).

My buddy thought he'd one up me by getting the 100GB Hardrive based version, but when we were filming a live band, there was to much vibration and his camcorder just wouldn't record! Thank you MiniDV!

Panasonic GR-D340

A kinda cheap, userfriendly, consumers-cam.
Not very great picture, awefull mic en no option to use an external mic.
But hell, my parents use it for their holiday-movies and the rest of the year I can use it for free...
It's fun for small stuff and for making films for the internet the quality isn't that bad.

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Sony-HDR-SR1-First-Impressions-Camcorder-Review.htm

It is really cool, 4MP HD video, 60 GB internal hard drive, it's really nice.

It's really streamlined my process of shooting, no more tapes to mess around with, and as long as its powered I can realistically shoot almost all day and not stop.

It has an internal mic mount, and it has a focus ring, so I can get true depth to my footage, instead of more "flat" looking images in cameras without focus rings.

It's a really wonderful camera, never had any issues with it, and I think i'm going to keep it for a while.

Yes sir, I've had a Panasonic DVX100A for...wow, 3 years now. I spent all the money I had in the world on it at the time, but I love it. It's a real work horse, and the image quality is great. If I were to upgrade (which I'm not, living in Los Angeles is a little expensive), I'd definitely be looking at the HVX200.

I don't have any camera at the moment, I let my brother use it for a skate film his friends were doing and they dropped it in a puddle and fried the inside. So yea, no camera. It was an old Sony, one of the first mini DV's if I remember correctly. I am however saving up for a JVC HD camera (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8225066&type=product&id=1166840341098). Hoping to have it before Christmas. Wish me luck!

Yeah, that's annoying, isn't it? You can use an RCA to 3.5mm jack adaptor on the A/V out and plug your headphones into that, but that's a really clumsy way of doing it when they could just have given it a headphone jack.

Exactly my fix as well. B&H has some radtastic external monitors that I could have run sound from too, but thats just a wee bit overblown for mini-dv (despite looking cool)...$1k vs $1.50? Obviously the choice was clear ;)

Sadly, due to financial reasons, I had to sell off my equipment. All Im left with is my still camera, which suprisingly records good video and picks up the sound decently. My other camera I still have is a Canon 514XL. It's an old Super 8mm film camera that shoots in 24fps. I'm actually writing a short film specifically for use with this.

Sony HVR-Z1U 1/3-Inch 3-CCD HDV Camcorder
Sony HVR-A1U HiDef HDV Video Camera
Sony HDR-HC7 HiDef HDV Video Camera
Sony DCR-PC110 Video Camera
Sony DCR-PC7 Video Camera
JVC GR-D90U Video Camera

Because, I like 'em. :fcross:

I edit on a MacPro 8 core using Final Cut Studio.

I also have an older G5 dual processor that I run Final Cut Express on.

I shoot a lot of school productions, sports, etc.

I have 2 Panasonic Ag-456, 1 AG-D400P SVHS. I'm looking to aquire 2 more AG-456's so as to have multiple angles of footage simutaneously in case the desired shot doesn't work out still have extra footage instead of re-shooting. Capturing through pinacle studio movie box plus, and editing with studio movie plus v11. the Ag's are cheap and have many manual features. I was surprised how the catured video looked, clear and detailed. And it even captures in widescreen through the movie box. A piece of advice I remember is use whatever you have, it's how the story is told, not necessarily what you use to tell it....

Canon XL1s
Canon XH-A1
Sony DCR-TRV720

Each is useful, the XL1s not so much since I got the XH-A1 but it is still useful when I want people to part ways when I walk through a crowd. I really like the Sony because it has a IR mode and the fact that its a Digital 8 camera so i can still capture old Digital 8 and Hi8 tapes.

Im using the new HV20 with the Rode shotgun mic, bought it 2 days ago. its underadvertised, but its the best quality camera on the market right now, do your homework. its made by cannon, they wont advertise it because they want everyone to switch to hard drive cameras (hv20 is full HD and ts mini DV)
Its sort of like how when Beta video was around they switched to VHS , even though Beta was better than VHS. it was newer. thats just like the hard drive cameras, im hard on those cameras because on a minidv when you run out of space you pop in another tape, with those you gotta clear the whole hard drive. and graphics are better cuz the image is actually being burnt into film

I like the size of the XL1s. People tend to take you more seriously as a filmmaker when you can show up with a big chunk of kit. When I was using my JVC, I didn't get the same responses from people outside my production company when we were working as when I got the big camera. It just looks impressive :)

I'm disappointed in the amount of A1 representing here! I've got an A1 with a Hv30 as b-roll and capture deck. Also got a redrock 35mm that just makes the image look like sex=0''' drool. It was worth going into debt for....but its a sacrifice, gotta look professional to get event jobs or anything to start making money to pay it off.
But eh, 15 and in debt is not a road many take, hahaha.

I just got a new Canon ZR900. I really don't have all that much money to spend, so for the price, I felt it was the best deal.
Before that I used a Sony Handycam Hi-8 piece of garbage. The camera itself was okay, it had great nightvision, but it used high-8, so now everything I filmed on it is still incompatible with my computer. I can't do anything with it.
I do love my new one. It is nice, and gives you almost complete control over the settings.

I ABOSOLUTLY LOVE THIS CAMERA! the touch lcd does get really messy easy from fingerprints, so i keep lcd wipes handy.:cool:
(also, i upgraded from this, and believe me, it was a upgrade needed. the video was decent, and in standard 480i, mic sucked, and no mic in. the camera was built for pix, which is what im using it for now) http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/kodak-easyshare-z612/4505-6501_7-31738566.html

yes I know that I could have gotten 1 much nicer cam for the price of two cams but two cams makes shooting go way faster and when your actors are working for free they appreciate that...

I used to video weddings and public access tv shows.
I have a few AG Panasonic camcorders AG-456 and AG-460 2 ccd, these were over 2,000.00 back in the day and now probably about $200-300 each now. After spending a ton of money on S-VHS Pro Camcorders, a S-VHS Editing deck and controllers and a mixer and CG, I just bought capture equipment for my PC. I am using the S-VHS camcorder footage, and playback through a S-VHS pro deck to my computer, I edit in the computer and burn to DVD. I found the quality to be very good actually.

With technology changing so much, I am using S-VHS until they wear out. Unless you spend $800 or more on a decent DV camcorder, its just not worth it, cheap ones do not even have a mic jack for better audio. I think my next camcorder will be another AG series digital one from Panasonic.
