I just wanted to clear up a problem that some of you seem to be having.

So, now that we know, lets use the right word from now on. Seriously, I doubt that you all have little people with wings and robes in your cameras.

I think WesScog needs to learn the importance of the apostrophe.

Only use it to indicate a possessive or a contraction - not for plurals!

Correct:
Erik's camera (belongs to Erik)
I've got a biscuit (contraction of 'I have')
Mogulers' forum (the forum belongs to more than one Moguler, so the apostrophe comes after the 's')

Incorrect:
I want one of those camera's (it should be cameras - apostrophes are not used for plurals. Ever!)
I hate MMO's (it should be MMOs - apostrophes aren't used for abbreviations, either!)
There were 100's of entries (it should be 100s!)

Exceptions:
The word it's only means 'it is', not 'belonging to it'. For example:

It's my user submission (this is correct - it is my user submission)
There is its box (this is also correct - there is the box belonging to it)
Where is it's user manual? (this is INCORRECT - it should be its!)

Well, I hope you've learned a valuable lesson. No more rogue apostrophes in Wes' blogs! (if the word ends in an 's', don't put another 's' after the apostrophe!)

Thank you for the insight, Spleg. Your comments were very insightful. It's clear that you're a very educated person.

Is there any way that a spell check could be put onto these forums? Because this issue has been bothering me also.

Ron Paul is doing NOTHING about global warming and does not believe in eveloution. He can not believe in evoloution if he wants to HOWEVER that means a lot of other scientific stuff that there is he will disagree on.

Global warmings destroying our planet, how can you have a president that wont even accept it?

He also was the only person out of hundereds to oppose an archive about slavery and how people were mistreated.

He is also completly against abortian surely it is the person getting the abortion's choice for someone about civil rights that seems strange. Those aren't really libertys. Not to mention that he voted no on the amber alert for missing kids. He voted no for $84 million grants for black and Hispanic colleges but yes for vouchers for private and parochial schools. He also voted "no" for the rights of gay people to adopt. Some libertys that is.

He also wants to get rid of the federal department of education and wants a constitutional ammendment for school prayer and the the only person to vote against Rosa Para, the Pope and Mother Theresa recieving the Congressional Gold Medal.

He's not some godly saviour he's a rebublican candidate with a huge internet supporting. Sure he's anti-war but so are all the other candidates. Pulling out imediatly isn't going to solve problems, it will only make them worse. Look at the good points and bad points of candidates. Sure I've just made a list of anti-Ron Paul things but that's just to balance out the amount of anti-democrat posts there have been.

Flamingo could quite possibly be the worst. His writing is as incorrect as his political views.

Abortian? is that some sort of martian? and dont get me started on "evolution"

My complaint is with "than and then"

THEN:
1. at that time: Prices were lower then.
2. immediately or soon afterward: The rain stopped and then started again.
3. next in order of time: We ate, then we started home.
4. at the same time: At first the water seemed blue, then gray.
5. next in order of place: Standing beside Charlie is my uncle, then my cousin, then my brother.
6. in addition; besides; also: I love my job, and then it pays so well.
7. in that case; as a consequence; in those circumstances: If you're sick, then you should stay in bed.
8. since that is so; as it appears; therefore: You have, then, found the mistake? You are leaving tonight then.
–adjective
9. being; being such; existing or being at the time indicated: the then prime minister.
–noun
10. that time: We have not been back since then. Till then, farewell.
—Idioms
11. but then, but on the other hand: I found their conversation very dull, but then I have different tastes.
12. then and there, at that precise time and place; at once; on the spot: I started to pack my things right then and there.

THAN

–conjunction
1. (used, as after comparative adjectives and adverbs, to introduce the second member of an unequal comparison): She's taller than I am.
2. (used after some adverbs and adjectives expressing choice or diversity, such as other, otherwise, else, anywhere, or different, to introduce an alternative or denote a difference in kind, place, style, identity, etc.): I had no choice other than that. You won't find such freedom anywhere else than in this country.
3. (used to introduce the rejected choice in expressions of preference): I'd rather walk than drive there.
4. except; other than: We had no choice than to return home.
5. when: We had barely arrived than we had to leave again.
–preposition
6. in relation to; by comparison with (usually fol. by a pronoun in the objective case): He is a person than whom I can imagine no one more courteous.

Not entirely true. The first case, where a possesive case is used in place of plaural, is indeed incorrect. The second isnt really acceptable but I can understand the apostrophe, as it can be interchanged with content omitted from a representation of a value. The last case is the best example of this. '100's' can be used, albeit informal, as the apostraphe represents the 'dreds' left out of the word 'hundreds.' This can not be used in formal writing (just as 'can't' and 'don't' and 'wouldn't'), but is grammatically acceptable in informal discourse (to further nitpick, numbers of small values such as 100 are to be spelled out, as 'hundreds'). Thus this can be extended to acronyms such as MMO (for 'Massively Multiplayer Online [Roleplaying] Game' - much of that phrase is omitted in the Acronym, and thus an apostrophe is acceptable).

What does it even matter? This isn't grammer school.

It's a freaking forum on the freaking internet. Besides you shouldn't get mad about someones bad grammer. It's not healthy.

I think as long as you're communicating as clearly as possible it shouldn't matter.

But somethings like people not using ANY punctuation or capitalization really annoys me to no end, I mean how hard is it to hit the shift key?

That's no excuse. Posts are easier to read, and understand, when they are typed properly.

It's spelled grammar, not grammer.

EDIT: So just because this isn't the real world, people should just completely forget their education thus far? Just because you can't see these people you're talking to, doesn't mean you have any excuse to cut the corners of communication.
