I just watched it last night. I thought some parts were amazing like the scene where they were all flaunting their business cards and I thought other scenes were just funny like when he said, "Sabrina, don't stare at it, eat it!" I can't decide if the murders actually happened or not. I know the director said they did happen but what do you think? I'm a bit skeptic because of the ATM dillusion.
It was a great film I can say that.

The novel is FAR more graphic. When I heard they were making a movie based on it I was wondering how they'd pull it off. But I liked the final result, even without the disgusting scene with the rat. If you've read it, you KNOW what I'm talking about.

It means you're hardcore. I am now myself but back in 1997 when I first encountered the book I wasn't the well polished filth master that I am now.

Wow, I'm hardcore at only 16! That must be a record. Back in 1997 when I was in first grade, I don't think I could have taken it... much less read it. lol

American Psycho is an excellent film and the parts of the book I've read are fantastic as well. It's on my list of books to read.
Guts by Pahlaniuk is amazing. One of the, if not the best short story I have ever read. I'm actually in the process of reading the book it's from (Haunted) right now. Chuck as defenetly been a big inspiration for me as a writer as well as ideas I'm developing for film. I just hope the things I end up writing or putting on film can bring out emotions like his work does.

That may be it. lol
The first time I read Haunted I thought the worse part was the whole sister getting pregnant thing but that was pretty gross. Now that I've read it like three times and other books, it doesn't bother me.

I saw the movie, then read the book. There is some seriously disturbing stuff there, particularly a part about a severed head and walking around an apartment with it being held up by....something. I don't want to get too graphic, but that part was a real WTF moment.
BTW,I couldn't get through more than a half hour of "American Psycho 2" Totally uninteresting characters, and crappy dialog. Waste of time. It's on ON-Demand for free if you have Comcast.

American Psycho 2 is GARBAGE.
The first is based on the original Ellis work, the second is just garbage and totally throws out any of the ambiguity of the first film out of the window.
Whats most interesting about the first film, is, just like in the book, you don't know if the murders are really happening or not, you don't know if he's a REAL murderer or just delusional and imagining it all.
The 2nd throws that all out of the window and tells you, yes he really was a killer, which I think is stupid. It being so ambiguous is one of the few things that made it really interesting.

The director and scriptwriter said this:
Director Mary Harron (in a Charlie Rose interview) and co-screenwriter Guinevere Turner (in the DVD commentary) have both stated explicitly that the murders were in fact real. They consider it a major failure of the film that viewers are confused by this point.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0144084/faq#.2.1.3
I'm still not convinced they happened though.

While the writer of the original novel, has stated they were purposefully ambiguous.
They obviously missed the point.
