i actually sort of stole this idea from Dawn of the Dead. you basically take a pvc pipe and rig it to the back of your zombie, making sure to run it down it's back, then you attatch an elbow pipe to the top. all you need now is a concoction of fake blood and little bits and peices of anything soft, like tissue, tiny bits of foam, or if you want to be more realistic, put in bits of ground beef! then all you need is something to push it all up rapidly, like pressurized air (if you can get it)
attatch the nozzle to the bottom (i'm unsure of the rig for firing it) and have your zombie stand with his back facing a wall. you can also use a gunshot effect on the forehead and pull the nozzle at the same time, so you get a nice, gory splatter of blood on the wall as your zombie falls over, dead (if your zombie was slightly hunched making it go up on an angle it will create a better effect as it goes up the wall)
so, that's it. all you need to do is just hose down the wall afterwards and your good to go.
cons:
-it makes a big mess
-i only got this from Dawn of the Dead, and my instructions are pretty shaky, so you'd better look it up
-i don't know how much it would actually cost you. probably within the range of $30-$40
-if you are only planning to use this once, and you aren't planning to make other movies with this effect, then you would be better off just throwing the splatter up the wall yourself.

Pretty cool, but it wouldnt be easy to push all that stuff out with heaps of force unless you had some kind of expensive air compressor thing. Maybe not but thats what i think neway

use an insecticide sprayer or the indymogul blood shooter, I use dit on my HITMAN adaptation and it worked brilliantly.

Sounds great, I think I'll try something similar in my next film.
Alternately, www.detonationfilms.com (http://forum.indymogul.com/www.detonationfilms.com) has loads of blood splatter effects for free which you can add into the shot during editing, or even do a mixture of the two, using the stock footage to add that extra splatter effect, and the fake blood launcher to cover the surrounding area, walls/floor etc with blood.

um, yes it does, i made one and i found it. its called a shrader valve. u could try asking for that instead of "that bike valve thingy"

how do you make the front part(forehead) burts open as the blood spurts out the back of their head?

You can obtain Schrader valves at bike shops or automotive stores (car tire valves use the same design). The automotive valves usually have a rubber plug permanently attached to them and are meant to be installed from the inside of the rim. They need a flat spot on the inside surface to seal properly.
If you don't want to use a schrader valve, or are having difficulty finding one, you can use a sealing quick-disconnect from a pneumatic tool supplier.
The hacked-together solution I used (because I had the parts) was a 1/8" barb attached to a short piece of 1/4" tubing screwed into a small check-valve. Firm 1/4" (outside diameter) tubing will engage most of the tire-inflating nozzles on the market, and the check-valve keeps the air where you put it after you disconnect the air supply.

Can't have any sort of flash, or it won't make sense. Plus, if you're using an actual ACTOR (since fake heads are difficult to make real and only really useful in quick shots, as in Dawn '78's exploding tenant head in the apartments) explosives attached to someone's head is just plain dumb. Skulls are made of bone, not metal. Except Wolverine's.
As for whoever asked about making entry wounds, I've seen three methods:
- Squibs covered with makeup and appliances (dangerous and illegal unless done by a pro with a liscense)
- small, circular sections covered in makeup and appliances (Tom Savini used this in Dawn when the explosives expert dropped the project... Basically, he attached transparent fishing line to everything from buttons to tin can lids, covered them with makeup, and ripped them off, exposing red makeup and sometimes blood pumps)
- Steric acid, used for candlemaking, that comes in extremely fragile projectiles, shot at a close distance out of a blowtube (check the special features for the film Dead and Deader about this one)

I've seen several videos use a "stage-blood spit-wad" to simulate an entry-wound.
Basically, it's a chunk of cotton swab stained dark and soaked in stage-blood. When it goes "splat" on the actor, it forms a red splatter surrounding a raised, dark, central "wound."
I'd have some concerns about eye-safety when staging an effect like this, so I'd consider dressing the actor in goggles or glasses and explaining them in the script. Zombies could simply already have "wounds" covering the actor's eyes, for example.

The clip I saw had the special effects tech shooting the chunk of acid and wax from enough range (inches away, to the side) that it would be pretty tough to foul up.
