is that where you took your pictures in that other photography thread, because wherever that was would be perfect.

No I was kidding. That was rural Indiana, about 1,000 miles away from civilization (slight exaggeration). Works for war movies though.

Terre Haute, which is probably the UGLIEST city in the world, but if you go about 15-20 miles out, and you can stand the accents, then you can get some fantastic locations.

These guys actually filmed on Omaha Beach in France.

But really, they could have used any Beach.

Like for instance, Sam Fueller's "The Big Red One" was mostly filmed in Israel, but it was supposed to be in North Africa and Italy.

Using some creative planning, and proper application of some movie magic, you could realistically film almost anywhere and make it look like almost anywhere else.

Haha I don't live there! I wouldn't be able to survive there, southern accents get to be a bit too much after a while. I do have family out there though, and I am unbelievably lucky to have access to all these amazing locations when I visit there.

If you ever decide to shoot there, I might just be there, I spend about a third of my summer vacation working there...

Wes is right again. A while back I was planning a First Blood spoof that never quite got off the ground but I discovered with some careful location scouting that I could closely replicate the locations of the original film around my town.
