How could you get a Blade Runner type look? Like with a myriad of flying automobiles and zeppelin looking thingies to be clogging the air ways. I jsut know it's going to involve a green screen. The only trouble is I don't got a good editing program and can't figure out how to use any of the free ones I find or the demos of ones like Final Cut. It's pissing me off and making me consider hiring an editor so that I don't have to hink about this type of shockazulu.

Ok i have a few questions covering a few diffrent areas.

1) The Show:

How/why did you get this started...from what i have seen in the shows it is just Erik and his 4-5 friends who are running this. This is very professionally done, better then most of the television i watch where people are being PAID to come up with show ideas.

Also why the move to New York City?

I do fake crying all the time and it never fails. I basically yawn. As I try to hid the yawn my lip kind of quivers. When I force myself to yawn a real one takes over. I can get streams of tears running down my face by about 20 seconds. It is very useful when i don't get my way lol"

Well Good editing Programs can Color Correct Witch will make it look better and As for crying Get a really strong Onion and Hold it below Frame and Smell It as you give your lines, if it's strong enough Your eyes will get red and Tears will form:)

Allso I beleve The program Erik uses Can Clean up the image So I'm sure Adobe of somekinds can do it, Sorry I'm not more Descriptive all I have is WMM and it's uh....Yeah...You get what ya paid for!, WMM is free...God it sucks hard!

Well all I know On this subject is prospective.
Film High angles that are supose to be a actors eye line, like, look down from high up on the actor that supose to be small, and to make actors look big do the shots from low to the ground.

And as for Wideshots of both the small and big, Photo Shop is the only thing I can think Of.
I have WMM and a web-cam so I am not able to cover the computer aspect yet!

You probably aren't lighting the green screen well enough. It has to be as evenly lit as possible.

Before you key out the green, make sure you haven't used any sort of color correction effect on the footage. Also, you can adjust different values and sliders with the chroma key tool to get a good key.

once youve keyed out your actor there should be some values like
edge thin, feather and colour tolerence. mess around with those and you should be able to get a better result!

i would suggest green screen effects or if you want, you can go for a hand on fire.

Put icyhot completely over the hand that is to be on fire, cover up to your elbow. Rubbing alcohol on hand and light it up. The icy hot will give basicly protect you from the burn, dont get alcohol on your skin or when you light it, it will burn you.
Do this only with someone that is holding onto a fire extinguisher for just in case, dont do this alone, and dont catch yourself on fire.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Well, using your phone number, me and my team come to your house at night while you are sleeping. We then inject you with a drug cocktail known as the Pinocchio serum, which puts you in a trance state. While we let the serum take effect we set up our mobile production studio in your room. Once we're ready to shoot and the serum is taking effect, we "encourage" you to re-enact the voicemail you left. We get what we need, put you back to bed, and get the hell out of there. The serum is harmless, so you're never the wiser.

Why do you need one continuous shot? It would save much more time and be much easier to just cut to a close up of a bloody hand then carry on.

Well, you could just have a masochist actor and just film them getting stabbed in the hand.

The other option would be to take a dummy hand, put like a glove on it or use make up to make it look more authentic, and just leave a packet of fake blood in it. Then just stab the prospect hand hard and you should get that effect.

He's talking about when the person looking in the miror and the reflection have to interact with one another. Like Nikki/Jessica in Heroes.

The two ways I can think of is to get a good angle and use a split screen/clone effect. Or you can cover the mirror in green and chroma something in.

another way to the do the mirror scene is have the mirror on a slight angle to the actor, so you cant see his/her reflection, and have the other actor standing beside them so that they are in the reflection.

Do you know a way to capture video with a television screen in the shot, without the screen being distorted?


One video I once had planned would have required a shot of me and my friends playing video games, but I couldn't capture that shot if I wanted to, because the screen would have looked distorted.

put a piece of green fabric over the tv and green screen a programme onto it. :)

basically a tv throws up a new image on the screen X times a second, and your camera captures things at Y frames per second, so you get awkward shimmers and black lines and such.

exactly...dont put green cloth over it because greenscreening shows whats on the layer beneath... what you want to do is put some video of whatever you want to be on tv on top of you footage and scale it down to fit the screen (if your camera shot moves then youll need a software that can do motion tracking so the scaled down footage will stay on sceen

I dont know how to get around it other than chroma keying an image to the screen. I can tell you the reason this happens is because TV projects images in 30i, meaning interlaced. It displays the image in lines and will show the odd lines (1,3,5, etc) and then the even lines (2,4,6, etc). It switches back so fast that your eye sees it as one solid picture. Someone mentioned that if you play a DVD, this wont happen, but I cant confirm this.

I followed the video.

Used Knox orignal gelatine.

Used I envelope (1 once) of the gelatine.

Mixed 1 cup of water with the gelatine( in a pot).

Put it in the frige for 2 hours.

Put it on the stove on low and heated until 120.

I put it in a little 4"x6" tubeware.

Put it in the frige again for 36 hours.

Thats it.

Try and film in a public place or trail, not a ski resort. It will just get too complicated with all the traffic and you might get booted out.

If you've seen the Fig Rig tutorial of mine that Wes blogged, that would GREATLY help steadying the camera.

Mix the shots between a handheld, moving shot as if being sucked into the chase, with wide, steady shots that show the whole view.

You might want to make that rainproof camera housing from an old Weekend Extra to keep out the snow. Also, make sure one person is in charge of having a warm, dry bag for the camera to sit in.

Make sure the operators stay warm. It's hard to zoom with numb fingers inside puffy gloves. It'd be nice to have a pair of sleek gloves that still block out the moisture.

A good idea might be to watch some sort of snowboarding/skiing demo video, and try and get in touch with the cameraman. He'll have some good tips for you. Or look on snowboarding forums and search for filming tips.
