I wanted to make a horror movie for Halloween, but with a low budget and no other actors, I decided to go for a Lovecraftian feel. Man gets book. Man reads book and discovers dark secret. Man unleashes indescribable horror.

For the 'horror' I'm going to use the invisible man effect (http://library.creativecow.net/articles/hamill_alan/invisible_man.php) with a particle effect as the background. It only needs to be on the screen for a few moments.

Kind of wondering if it should be done in black and white or maybe sepia toned?

Cool. Nice idea. I'd go for black and white.

Of course, I'm a film noir junky and film mostly in black and white, randomly going to negatives. So ya, black and white.

You raise a good idea... flickering.
