Is the iPhone worth it? Keep in mind not just the price of the actual phone, but the cost of the service plans from AT&T.

the iPhone is the best cel phone created to this point. Of course, there will be the gPhone by google that is consider an "iPhone+" or "iPhone 2.0".
I would get an iPhone; but, I can't afford the voice/data plan.
People who hate iPhone, Apple and iPod just don't get it. Technology is complicated enough. Apple put a higher priority in making technology easier to use for the average person. People keep forgetting this one very important point. That is their biggest claim to fame if nothing else.
Complex technology: Us, most of us, on this forum are willing to suffer thru understanding camera, lens, glass, light, f-stop, software, (abstract concepts) edit points, framing, cropping, titling, compositing, matte... We are willing to put up with other crap smart phones with it's ackward interfaces and castrated functiontionality. How many of us are familar with ASA/ISO or DIN? How many of us even know the chemistry of real film?
Anyone ever used the Blackjack (my friend's)? It's similar to a Blackberry. Anyone own a smart phone? For anyone who never played with a smart phone before: Notice how the web pages doesn't load correctly? Noticed how pages are reformatted to how the smart phone is (in)capable of displaying it? Don't let me get started about navigating the web site! It's junk.
All the other smart phones, up to the point when the iphone was release, was crap. The iPhone, even if you're not a fan of it (I'm not a fan of it's cost and non-user replace battery), will force other Cel providers to 'knuckle up, b!tch!' and give us better devices.
Cel phone makers do want to give us better unites with more fuctionality. It's the cel service providers who dictate which features they are willing to support. It took Apple to dictate to AT&T how a communication device should work.
In closing, I can't wait till a gPhone comes out. It should be similar (or 'better'). Google, by offering Android to phone makers, it should translate into more competition....and cheaper phones.
