Did some searching around and didn't really find anything like this, so here goes.
ITT we talk about favorite movies and why it's your favorite. What about it makes it stand out from other movies you've seen.
or
Inspirational or influential movies. Were there any movies you saw that absolutely blew you away? Changed the way you thought about something? Did it get you into film making? Whatever, talk about that here.
or both
I'll start off with a small thing for me. The Matrix. When I first saw that movie, I was blown away by all the effects done from bullet time to Neo seeing everything all matrix-y. I guess this was the movie that got me into doing computer visual effects.

Children of Men- Such a great vision and beautifully directed and acted. This has to be my favorite movie.
The Darjeeling Limited- I just love the film, I really loved the characters and it was really inspiring. I met Wes Anderson 4 days before the release and it actually turned out to be one of my favorite of his films.
All of Christopher Nolan's films- They're all just amazing. Wow. This director can't go wrong. Pure filmmaking, I don't think I've ever been bored during a Nolan movie.
Atonement- Just epic. Fantastic movie with amazingly strong directing.

Rushmore changed my whole outlook on film.
I think everything about it is perfect and unique. It opened me up to the rest of Wes Anderson films, and a whole world of indie film.

My favorite is Pulp Fiction just because it was like different movies mashed together.
It had action,comedy,love(kinda)........
My second is constantine. Not just because I love movies with history and mythology but also because of stunning visual effects.

I thought Arlington Road was good. I would say my reason for liking it, but it would spoil the ending for those who have not seen it. Also, The Professional is one of my favorite movies.

When i saw mallrats, i realized that movies didn't have to be about big blockbuster shit or really intense drama. They could just be about friends bullshitting and clerks double confirmed that.
It also helped me get into the idea of actually making movies because stories like that were so accessible.
But every movie i ever saw has influenced me in some way. I will watch the same movie back2back sometimes just to really get what I'm viewing.
I watched Shaun of the Dead 3 times in a row the first night I saw it. I was amazed by everything in it.
