if you don't have a hotshoe and no mic input you can't hook a mic up

So do you have a hot shoe on your camera?
The hot shoe adapter you listed (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/479976-REG/Sony_VMCK100_VMC_K100_Microphone_Adapter_Cable.htm l) (the VMC) allows you to use your hot shoe as a mini-jack microphone input.
The eBay listing you posted allows you to screw on a microphone to the top of the camera but it won't actually be connected to your camera. It'll just sit there.
If you have a hot shoe the VMC is good if you want to use a mini-jack microphone. Or you can use a hot shoe microphone which doesn't require a mini-jack input but uses the hot shoe to record (like this mic (http://vistek.ca/store/ProVideoMicrophones/167055/canon-dm50-directional-stereo-mic-camcorders-advanced-hot-shoe.aspx)).
That's the best I can offer you without knowing what model of camera you have however.

That's the wrong adaptor. You need something that has a mini jack on it.
