I am new to film making, and don't have alot of money. I have decided to go with a Mini DV over HDD after returning a HDD camera I had that was 400 bucks and sucked (something personal happened, and now I no longer have my hard earned saved up money. I do however have some cash.

I am looking at the Canon ZR-930 Mini DV

I just wanted to ask if anybody had any personal experiences with it, and if it was a good deal or not...

it looks good to me,
Mic Input** My favorite part about it
Image stabilization for the rare moments when I am tripod less
Low light recording (with extra light)
Widescreen format along with regular.

As a side note:
I do not have a Firewire card for my computer...where should I get one and how much should i look at spending to get a quality one

Its a good camera for entry level, yes I would get it my friend has one and it makes descent immages, as for the firewire card I gott mine at amazon, its standard PCI and comes with a 3 ft cable add a longer cable mabey and that works good for capturing SD I havnt tried it yet with HD.

It is pretty decent but i would recommend getting the canon zr800 because it has a mic jack and it's a lot cheaper than the ZR950. I use my ZR800 with a audio technica atr-55 and it looks and sounds great. P.S. the ZR830 and ZR850 do not

Yeah what he said. I've got the 800 and I love it. I've seen all the ZRs in person and their imported footage and I don't see that big of difference. And a mic jack is definitly important.
