Hi all.
I have been thinking about shooting my own take of The texas Chaisnaw Massacre: The Beginning (and no, TCM fans, I'm not bringing the original Leatherface back. Sorry, never liked him). Anyway, the special effects in this film are quite tricky. Heres a vid with some of the death scenes so you can get the idea:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ls19WJnb55c&feature=related
1. Need fake legs to "break" with a sledgehammer.
2. Need to blow off the head of a standing victim (more graphic than what you see on the vid).
3. Need to graphically break an arm by wrenching it. I want this to be much more graphic than in the vid.
4. Need to cut a torso in half, like in the vid.
5. Need to skin an arm.
6. Need to impale a torso with a chainsaw and have guts come out.
7. Need to skin a head.
Thats pretty much all I need. Oh yeah, and I need all of this thats bloody looking but won't spray fake blood all over my camera lense.
And just to let you know, I'm not going to be doing an exact copy of the movie, just using the same basic death scenes.
Thanks for all help!:)

Do we look like your special effects department? Do you want us to shoot the film for you, too?
People on this forum can help you, but they aren't going to do it for you.

well my simplest answers would be:
1. use wood or something hard and breakable to replace as a leg inside of someone's pants. then apply blood packs where necessary. sledge hammer away (probably wanna mute actual sound and throw in more realistic bone crunching sound effects)
this next one applies to 4 and 6: fill a pillow with fake guts and blood. place inside shirt. you COULD use a real chainsaw but people might frown upon the idea.
7: buy one of those fake skull heads. apply layers of that pinkish underskin we find on people (sorry i don't know what its called haha), blood, skin, then hair. rip away.
well im not great in the special FX department, but those are what I came up with. People will probably follow up with better suggestions.

It wasn't a question you asked. You were telling us what you NEEDED. You never asked how to do it.

What's my problem? My problem is that you asked how to do every special effect in a film you'll likely never make with the expectation that someone will tell you the exact procedure for all of them.
It's evident that you didn't stop to think intuitively about how to do these effects and in all probability have no experience with special effects.
I'm willing to help someone with the odds and ends of special effects (the one or two things that are really racking their brains) but dissecting every special effect is a job for the SFX artist.
Sleep on it. Ponder how you could do these effects. Maybe get a book or two and look up some SFX websites. Watch the effects documentaries on you favourite movies. Think about it some more. If there are still two or three that you really can't figure out, then post. If you were too lazy to think about how to do your effects, then I don't see why I should do it for you. We're not getting paid for our time, you know.

If you're not doing an exact copy of the movie, then why not just make your own effects? Regardless of the changes you make if you just have the same deaths popping in, then it's going to be lame. The ways people die in slasher flicks is the most interesting part sometimes... be creative and imagine your own ideas... you sick sick bastard.
