felix78
09-26-2007, 10:23 AM
u Can make as good effects in Vegas as in any other though its more complicated. but easy things r more complicated in other program than i vegas, thats why people thinks Vegas isnt as good.

*professional*
and i still prefer after effects and final cut pro. they're just two solid programs that are professional.
i think that hardcore indy movie makers, or any hardcore movie maker for that matter, really are against sony vegas, because it really does offer ALOT for a fraction the price, but people will swear by after effects and final cut, or motion, shake, sound track pro, or logic.
i think people just get the feeling they're working with a good solid platform because of the price, the look, and of course the fact its widely used by pros.
sony vegas has ALOT to offer, but it gets looked down upon because of the price, and i think i'll still get looked down upon for a while.

Lol, final cut pro isnt used by "real" film makers, so isnt Vegas. There r big differense between Using Vegas 6.0 Platinum/home edition then using vegas pro.... its alot different.

Um actually generally no it is not, Because of the simple fact that hollywood movies are NOT recorded digital they are all recorded film. Now if we are talking about say, indie, yes they use it but you have to realize there is a difference between indy and indie. Indie will not do a project for less then a few hundred thousand. Indy is what yous ee as the kids running around with little 8mm and dv cameras you get at like best buy or walmart. There is a Big difference, and one thing you have to remember, is indie have the money to use after effects and premiere. and final cut pro.. Shoot, I used final cut pro before, but i mean it isn't anything different than using windows movie maker other than the functionality. but when it is all done it did the same thing. imports clips, put them in order, trimmed them and exported them. it can be done with anything like that. just because it costs a lot does not make it Professional. What you do with it, is what makes it professional or not.

here's a quote i found about a movie that is possibly one of the BIGGEST hits with film buffs, especially around here.
"The film was transferred to HD SR tape and Quicktime, with Quicktime being used for the HD preview cuts. Macs were preferred by the filmmakers of 300. Even though Final Cut Pro was not the main editing software used for 300 it was preferred over Avid. Shake was also the main program used for the 2D effects and Quicktime HD was the choice for movie previews. The main visual effects team that worked on 300 said that they used 15 G5's for creating all of the visual effects"
EDIT: i found this list too, its not complete its just an example
The Rules of Attraction (2002)
Full Frontal (2002)
Cold Mountain (2003) - Academy Award Nominee for Best Editing
Intolerable Cruelty (2003)
Napoleon Dynamite (2003)
Open Water (2003)
The Ladykillers (2004)
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004)
Super-Size Me (2004)
Michael Moore Hates America (2004)
Corpse Bride (2005)
Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story (2005)
Happy Endings (2005)
Jarhead (2005)
Little Manhattan (2005)
Hoot (2006)
Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
Zodiac (2007)
Reign Over Me (2007)
Youth Without Youth (2007)
so uh yeah real film makers use final cut pro, i never said MOST film makers do. however, real hollywood types, use final cut pro.
not to mention its the leading editing software for television

Most Hollywood film makers make their own Editing program. but they mostly use already made Effects programs.

nooneimportant77

it looks like they might have used flash for the 4 minute film school, but that could be after effects as well.
if you want the stuff to look good, you have to spend the money. its expensive for a reason.

And yeah, why don't you try to just ask them nicely? Approach them and tell them why you want one so badly. It might work. (Although I had to pay for all of my cameras.)

In an effort to stay on topic, I'm pretty sure they use After Effects, but they could very well be using Final Cut. I'm dead sure that the 4 minute Film School logo is made in Flash. I'm DEAD SURE.

To make these "mobies" you only need a camera. "Micophones" and "geenscreens" only help to enhance your films.

I think justin has after effects. But that is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. It's the best stuff out there if you can shell out the $1k that it'll cost you. You may want to buy EffecsLab from FXhome.com for about $150. It works fine.

You can easily make smoke, muzzle blasts, fire, ect. (I even did a helicopter)
you can use free Green Screen Effects from DetonationFilms.com

uh you do know that there is no such thing as used software. Once you buy a software you can't re sell it unless the computer that its on goes with it. So you wont be finding any used AE on ebay.

That's not exactly true...
Software licensing states that you can sell software, but you have to erase every copy you own and transfer all to the new owner.

It's certainly expensive, but not ridiculous for the product - especially considering that professionals who easily make 10x that much on a single project use it.
