I need a realistic effect of a man, alive, on the floor with his leg, knee down, cut off. I don't know how I can do this. I can't use a dummy since he'll be alive and dragging himself on the floor and I want to let people actually see the blood and gore inside the wound. Can somebody help me?

You don't get it...I know how to do that, I just want to somehow hide the actor's real leg

ohh sorry
you could have your actor tuck his lig to the side and use camera angles to hide it

That could work...what do you guys think about using nose putty to make a jagged looking open wound?

Get your actor to tuck his leg behind him into a belt, with a hole cut in the back of some trousers at the knee so it appears he has no lower leg. Like Vaughn said, you then just have to hide the leg with camera angles. And keep your shoots short, your actor is gonna have his circulation cut off from his leg pretty quickly, give him lots of breaks so he can walk it off between each take.

For the blood and gore, construct a cap to strap over his bent knee, similar to the decapitation episode.

I'm suposing you don't have a big budget... bu hou about hiding your actor's legs under the floor or a fake floor?maybe it can work with a good camera angle.

Nah, I'm just going to get my actor took tuck his leg under his other one and use camera angles...maybe try to get some socks the same color as his pants to make it look better.

As said before, camera angles are key. If you use enough fake blood that can help hide stuff too.

What exactly are you putting the guy on? The usual trick is to cut a circular hole in the floor and have the actor dangle his leg though it. Tucking the leg in can work, but it's often difficult to get the right illusion of depth - it'll look like one of his thighs is enormous.

Edit: Just saw the new responses after I posted. Strike this one.

Don't know if this will help at all, but fellow Moguler widanelacamber (http://forum.indymogul.com/member.php?u=19519), posted a thread with a few of his makeup tests. Even though he didn't include this one in the post, I found it on his YouTube page. Blown Off Leg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDDNY3AuFmU), take a moment to check it out, at the least maybe you can get an idea. I think him and his assistant did a good job.

Good luck to you, as always post your final.
