Is this worth the $30?

Its called Sima video prop svp-3....It costs $30 at my wolf camera here in colorado. My question is, is it worth $30, is there a better alternative, will it help keep the footage steady? One thing I hate is when I film, and walk, the footage isnt as smooth as I need it to be. Thanks...

i have a feeling if you get that all it will do is show you how much your chest actually moves while you walk. go with the $15 steadicam.

I would also stick with the poor man's steady cam for moving shots. It might help with static shots, but why not just use a tripod? in fact if portability is your concern I would probably get a monopod for static shots on the run.
Anything that secures the camera to your body is going to move the camera when you move.

A movie with only static shots would just be really boring. Plus, in a lot of shots, movement is needed.

Yeah I think that 30 dollar one would move up and down a lot when you breathe. I like the design of the $7 one a lot, but that other one looks really good too. I'll have to put both to the test!

Sorry, what I really meant was shots that are not hand held. you are right. Too many static shots are boring, but sometimes you need close ups and stuff that doesn't move. You can also use the tripod for shots that just move side to side (Panning is the correct term I think?)
I'm planing to build the poor mans steady cam and the BYFX dolly for my film making. I just bought most of the parts this weekend.
If I get really ambitious I'll think about a crane...
