Hi,
I have about $250 to spend on editing software for an IMac. It has to be compatible with MiniDV, also. Any suggestions?
Thanks

those programs are for different things. FX home is effects, Final Cut is editing, and I'd got with Final Cut.

you can't "CUT" with FX home, you should at least research the two first. Go with final cut. Even with express you get amazing capabilities. Including the ability to chroma key so you should still be able to do MANY effects and you could always save for AE

final cut. for editing, it doesnt get much better than that

I have FCE, and love it. But I will probably by fxhome for effects and such.

Couldn't you use detonation films for effects?

if you want fire and explosions, i'm not sure what the extent of FX home is, but either way final cut is a better choice. its a better investment.

I have final cut express and I learned how to use it pretty fast after using adobe premiere pro for the longest time.

I think editing > F/X

I think this because you can tell a story through shots, and transitions, but not really through special effects.

I'm so sick of people comparing things like FXhome products or After Effects to NLE's...

Do you want to edit your movies, or do you want to put lightsabers in them?

Final Cut - I also have FXHome products, but the user interface is horrible. Beside that FXH is still a bit primative, but they try to market their systems like it is THE ulitmate program. Use Final Cut E now then move to FCP - more people will hire people with FCP experience then FXH.
