Its not ridiculous, the scene encapsulates the "yuppie era"; trying to be the best constantly, it shows why Bateman becomes what he is; a psycho. He is disillusioned by his feeling he is the best, to only find himself shown up by someone else who is clearly better. The ridiculousness of it (if it can so be called) should be attributed to the satirical nature of the film and how ridiculous the eighties yuppie culture was.

I can't find this freaking clip anymore, but one of the worst scenes I've seen in a good movie is from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

It's where Indy is about to catch Mola Ram, who is standing, and the shot cuts to him (or rather, his figure) laying down on the ground, which then drops down to be a trap door. Then you hear the stupid laugh sound effect.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, you'll agree that this scene just sucked.
