Ok this time, I need to know what features people like in a video camera. So tell me all of the following.

What camera "YOU" use?
How much did "YOUR" camera cost?
Features you think are useful that "YOUR" camera has?
Features you know to be useful but aren't on "YOUR" camera?
And 1-5 rating that you think "YOUR" camera deserves. (not counting price towards your rating) example 3/5.

I use a Sony HDR-SR1, it's the AVCHD Hard Drive based camera. It's sensor is a 1/3" CMOS sensor, with, 2100000 pixels.

It records 1080i or 720p, and has a Standard Definition recording option.

At BEST quality, I can record 7 hours of shoot on the hard drive, as long as I keep it fed with electricity.

The things I like best about it are, the fact that it has a manual focus ring, and the fact is has an external mic input. Two things that are important for serious film making.

It cost 1,000 dollars, but is down to like 750 now.

All I want in my next camera is an A/V input.

one thing I really want in the next camera I buy is being able to record wile its charging, this would be really useful for time lapses, so WesScog it sounded like yours can but I just want to make sure, can yours do that?
and how big is the hard drive on yours? 30 gig? 60 gig? 1.000.000 gig?

Panasonic 3CCD NV-GS500 MiniDV SD with manual exposure, iris and white balance controls and a manual focus ring. It cost me £720.

It has a mic input and A/V out, but no A/V in or headphone out. However, there is a workaround by using adaptors from the A/V out port - I use all these just to get headphone monitoring:

It has a 43mm lens thread which I step-up to 52mm, colour viewfinder and, unlike my last camera, THE TAPES ARE EJECTED FROM THE TOP! No more fumbling about, taking it off the tripod, inserting a new tape and putting it back on the tripod! Woo!

I'd rate it 4.5/5.

For those wondering, £720 = $1,466.47 (USD).

Anyways. My camera right now is an old Canon 514XL Super 8mm. It's from the 70's, but has the ability to shoot in 24 fps. Sadly, the sound strip on the film was found to be less than enviromently friendly, and is no longer produced. When I record I have to do all the audio seperately. For editing, I was going to be splicing the film together manually but decided against it. Instead, I'll have a digital transfer done and then edit it on my pc.

Nothing wrong with old cameras.

Anyway, I use a Panasonic PV-GS36. Good video quality and some alright manual settings, but not really a filmmaker's camera. No mic input, and it obviously doesn't do 24p.

Cost about AU$1800.

The only thing it's missing IMO is adjustable shutter-speeds.

Nope, it's only 3 chip. But the technology Panasonic has developed is pretty amazing. I can get HD looking footage pretty effortlessly.

I'd love to have the money to shoot something in Super 8. I have a Super 8 camera and two rolls of film (colour and b+w), but I haven't filmed anything yet because I'm too scared of screwing up the film! After all, film ain't half pricey, especially with development.
