Now in a previous episode, Erik tells us briefly that blood is made from corn syrup, red food coloring, and a bit of water, but I think BFX or BFX: Extra should make an episode that explains this effect to the fullest.

Glycerin with red coloring?
I know watered down chocolate syrup works for black and white films. But alternative recipes? You can use Latex paint, it's what they use in a lot of older Kung Fu movies, bright red latex paint, it looks very campy and fake, but its passable, it's also what they use to make blood visible on black cloth, splatter some of the Red Paint in it because it's opaque and shows up on anything. Any kind of syrup works well, it doesn't have to be Corn Syrup, although, really, how common is like Rice Syrup? I know they sell it, but i've never seen it except in a few Health Food stores and it's quite expensive. Is one of your actors allergic to corn or something? Because Corn Syrup is simply the cheapest and quickest way to make really great looking blood, it's what we used for the car wreck in the PSA I shot, and I thought it looked great, the EMT's even said it looked real. But yea, all we did was take a bottle of corn syrup, and we actually just squeezed a whole bunch of red food coloring and a little water into it and shook it up. We kept adding red coloring and shaking it until we were happy with how red it was. It's really really simple. And now that it's getting closer to Halloween, they offer commercially available bit bottles of fake blood in party stores. |

When i make blood I use just a mixture of red food coloring and chocolate syrup.. You have to mix it carefully so it doesn't turn out too red .. oh and also don't use a generic brand .. only use hersheys.. and i promise it isn't too dark I've been using it for years ... it is sticky though.
