Default Ghetto Master FX

After being low on supplies for a short one shot zombie film I shot today, we had to use make shift supplies.

As a white foundation for the face, we simply put baking flower on a wet cloth and had our actors put their faces on it. It worked out great and looked just as good (even a little better) for free.

We then needed to make blood packs. We took a ziploc bag and put some of our fake blood inside. We then taped this bag to our actor's stomach and when we needed to have it ripped open, we sent a zombie to rip it off. This spewed blood all over our actor AND the floor.

Default Excuse me?

What is so "Ghetto" about this exactly? Hint, some folks might find that terminology offensive. Especially African-Americans on this forum, like say for instance... Me.

1. I'm not stereotyping myself. I'm being stereotyped when someone says that doing something anyway other than the standard way or a lower grade of the standard is "Ghetto".

2. What are you wowing about? I find the way he made the comment offensive. Perhaps instead of rolling your eyes you should use your brain, perhaps you'd be able to see the world from another perspective. Could actually make you a better director, direktor.

Ghettos don't specifically refer to black people. They simply refer to poverty-stricken urban areas. You are just assuming that MitchellStafiej means a black ghetto. Therefore, you are stereotyping yourself.

Yeah, this is America and there's this thing called "Connotation", which basically means words have a certain way they are normally perceived despite the way they might be defined in the dictionary. In America the connotation of ghetto is linked most notably to being African-American. Argue it all you want, but thems the facts.

I love it when folks who don't want to acknowledge the intrinsic bigotry of certain words and phrases, thus having to acknowledge their own complicity in using such offense terms, try to argue that "No, that's a general term." No, it isn't. And I take offense of it's use here. There are a million different ways he could have described it. Low Budget, Guerrilla, make shift, etc... Instead he decided to use that word, that no matter what you say, gets closely associated with a certain group of people.

Instead of arguing why not just acknowledge that it was probably a bad choice of words that someone could easily take offense to?

Not everyone lives in America, MitchellStafiej included. And some people may think saying guerrilla is offensive too. It is annoying when people are so easily offended and try to find ways to express how offended they are.
This is like when I saw the apprentice and Omarosa said that saying "like the pot calling the kettle black" was a racist term.

in summation, lets move on from this stupidity and just discuss the effects. I think those effects are pretty good. One I can add is when you use the bag of blood taped to the chest (under a shirt I assume) you can cut holes above the blood line and so when the person is attacked (this works for gunshots too) they can just push on the bag of blood and it will force the fake blood through the holes

he obviously does not mean this in racist context. ghetto, like kpb730 said, is a poor urban place meaning this is a poor way of building something. so chill out everybody.
